BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:50 P.M>) – Great Britain is seeking to launch its twin-engine stealth fighter called the “Tempest” less than a year after the full model of the plane was unveiled, the National Interest reported.

According to National Interest, the Tempest should include a large list of sixth generation technologies such as supplying optional weapons, distinction with supersonic weapons or directed energy, and the ability to spread and control drone squadrons.

Last July 16, at the Farnborough Airshow, British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson unveiled a complete model of the Tempest, the UK’s concept of a two-engine ghost.

The British company Rolls Royce announced that the turbocharged fans with an adaptive hidden cycle in the Tempest will be made of lightweight composite materials, and will be characterized by superior thermal management and digital maintenance controls, and generate large amounts of electricity through the magnet in the turbine cores.

Excess electricity may be particularly important for the operation of guided energy weapons, which can range from lasers to microwaves.

The U.S. Air Force plans to test a defensive anti-missile laser tower for its aircraft, but the Tempest offer mentions the use of direct energy weapons for “non-motor” purposes, which means disabling or damaging hostile sensors.

The collaborative technology will allow this fighter to integrate sensor data with friendly aircraft, ships or ground forces using advanced communications systems and data connections.

These technologies allow a vehicle to deliver sensor data to another vehicle, which can then fire rockets toward the target.

No performance information such as maximum speed, range, radar cross-section, etc. was mentioned in the presentation.

The design is supposed to be completed in 2020, with a prototype flyable in 2025 and production aircraft entering service in 2035, to gradually replace the fourth generation of the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon fighters.

. . .
BS.. they probably manage to show case a model in 2021.
The way they are planning the project, they will be even a bigger failure than F-35.

.
if it becomes successful it will badly impact u.s f35 future sales
F-35 will already be sold to almost half of the countries on the planet until Tempest becomes ready

If the F-35 is a failure, then what can be said about the Su-57 and Chinese jets...? F-35 is the most advanced fighter out there (except F-22) but it still needs some time to reach its full potential. There's only one main thing that can be criticized about the F-35 and it is the program costs...

.
countries will prefer 6th gen jet over f35 who has 5gen capability and also certain problems

f16 is much successful than f35 ,it has not much defects and is much cheaper and cost effective jet unlike f35
What I'm saying is that the F-35s will become like today's F-16s (everyone has them) until Tempest makes its maiden flight. There's a difference in generations you know...

It was not a comparison of both aircraft. Almost half of the NATO and other main US allies already has the F-35s now and there are many other countries waiting in the line as well... Tell me, why do you think that fighters were being produced in mass numbers like 10 or 20 thousand back in the WW2 but now only in small numbers? Because they become more and more complex and costlier as the technology advances. In this case, the price of an F-35A is almost down to 80 millions now... It's not that expensive if you consider the technologies it has and the overall costs of an average 5th gen. plane...

Wow - you people really need to understand what @ÇölKaplanı is saying.

By the time the tempest is operational (probably +15 years from now) the F35 will have been the "default" go-to aircraft of most of the world. It will be old news.

Of course everyone will want the next gen by then.

This is a fighter jet made by a consortium of some of the best non-American defence firms in the world namely
BAE Systems & Rolls Royce (British), MBDA (France), Leonardo S.p.A (Italy). While US is much ahead in development of 5th gen tech, EU should soon catch up and surpass if they also involve Germany & Spain - the two other tech giants in EU

Tempest

This is a FCAS (Future combat air system) being solely developed by France - Dassault, Airbus, Indra Sistemas, MBDA, Thales, Safran & MTU

I am v.v.v. excited about Tempest, it will illustrate the best of British, Swedish and Italian design and engineering prowess..

I am suprised about the source of this article --> "BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:50 P.M>) –"...

Odd place for this type of news.

What make you sure a countries which has no enough experience in building 5 generation air fighter with more limited budget will surpass US who has long experience in stealth fighter?

I never said they'd surpass but the only country I'd bet on to make a decent 5+ or 6th gen fighter is France...they've managed to develop a world class fighter like the Rafale from scratch solely by French companies. While EFT, which is very well on par with the Rafale is still from a consortium making individual countries not on par with France

I also expect other EU countries like Germany would join down the lane since these projects typically seen several cost overruns and technical difficulties in developing 5th/6th gen tech. Regarding Tempest, I'm sure France would prioritize FCAS over Tempest
