UK ready to join CPEC: HC

Point was that UK has shown its interest in CPEC long way back and post BREXIT its CPEC who is one good option for them to increase their trade and cater for what all they had lost.
That highway was originally not part of CPEC I believe. It just happens to be one as Pakistan is mostly upgrading existing road network to link with CPEC.

UK will surely invest if they see the benefit in it and right now investing in Pakistan means targetting population of 200 million in Pakistan and also parts of western china, iran, afghanistan and Central asia. So it is ideal place for multiple ventures.

While China is a large manufacturer of finished goods it is a largest importer of raw materials , machinery and high technology...most of the high tech imported by China originates from USA, Germany, Britain, France, Japan etc.

Most of the semi conductors are made in China but the technology to produce rare earth metals into high tech devices is largely western...on level of industrialization...Chinese economy would be rated at Tier 2. That is is has self reliance in manufacturing of finished goods but it is at large dependent on import of technology necessary for producing these goods.

China overall exports hi-tech far more than imports
  • In fact more than the next three nations combined ($558 billion in 2014).
  • Hi-tech imports biggest item is IC chips (TSMC alone controls 59% of global foundry market) amounting to almost $200 billion p.a. even more than crude oil, followed by CNC/robotics (Fanuc, Yaskawa, Kawasaki, DMG, Kuka, Siemens, Doosan, etc).
  • That's why largest bilateral deficit is with Taiwan, followed by South Korea, Germany and Japan.
  • Among all exports, electro-mechanical equipment is the single largest category. By type, capital goods (machines, tools, transport systems, maritime equipment), components (electronic, optic, machined parts) and materials (steel, composite, chemicals) are more important than consumer goods.
  • China does produce IC/CNC/robotics/li-ion batteries however still not competitive enough vs these 4 countries (TW/SK/DE/JP), hence recording these deficits with them, when China overall industrial exports score overwhelming surplus in almost all other trades. Citing such gaps, top-level national plan "Made in China 2025" was launched to directly target these 4 countries in 10 sectors, nothing else.
There is imports of IC/CNC/robotics, but no import of technology (not even through FDI which is 70%+ dominated by Hong Kong). On tech reserves, see the changing pattern of global patents, Chinese patent filings is already largest in the world, followed by US, Japan, South Korea and Germany. These five account for 82.5% of world total:

On industrialization it's a huge topic, see below links. For simplicity let's check Competitive Industrial Performance (CIP), an index compiled by UNIDO to measure relative industrial strength of 145 nations (UN members only so Taiwan excluded), see the details:

Actually after Brexit and its looming diaster the UK is ready to join any trade pact that exists. They'd join the African Union if asked.

Lol, very true. But all they will do is try and sink it or sabotage it just like what they have done to the EU.

I think that's always part of the plan. But they will be badly surprised if they try to pull off shit like that.

. . . .
Ok, this is a bit misleading. I read Boris Johnson's remarks during his Pakistan visit. He's lobbying for British companies to be awarded contracts to build CPEC project. That's understandable [heck, even Reliance would do it if given the chance :) ]
But this is obviously not the same as 'joining' CPEC - which, of course, makes no sense for Britain.

If they bring joint ventures, projects and jobs to Pakistan, they are most welcome. Why not ? As long as we all make money, we should encourage any industrialized Western and European country to come join us.

Just look at history. What positive contribution have they made? Also look at the state of British Pakistanis in the UK and the way they are being economically crucified.
