So am I, and in actual fact the vast majority were and still are unskilled. Most wouldn't be able to get a skilled work visa after Brexit.

Immigration policies are driven by demand. Student visas were opened for many years with very relaxed legislation allowing students to get away with working for how many ever hours they could get work for. Depression lead to a sharp clamp down with home office cards being issued etc. Then came in the influx of Eastern Europeans so Brexit happened as any other immigration policy would not have been approved by EU.
