UK PM Johnson to phase out Huawei's 5G role within months

UK has huge surplus in service trade to China. China's trade surplus won't be big if you take service into account.

Err no......

https://commonslibrary.parliament.u...7379/#:~:text=In 2018:,6.6% of all UK imports.

"
In 2018:

  • UK exports to China were worth £22.6 billion; imports from China were £44.7 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of -£22.1 billion.
  • The UK had a small surplus with China on trade in services, outweighed by a deficit on trade in goods.
  • China accounted for 3.5% of UK exports and 6.6% of all UK imports."

Above includes both goods and services.

Ok I didn't google the data. But last year UK was China's 4th largest investor after Singapor, Korea and Japan. UK is even ahead of US and Germany. The incomes of investments must be huge. And investment income is not regarded as export. I know UK is very competitive in service industry. For example, HSBC, 70% of its business is in China.

Right, a colony normally has more freedom
As a matter of fact, people in HK has more freedoms under PRC than colonial ruled. Elders always tell us that even a normal protest was very restricted at that time, not to mention political rights and now people keep shouting "ending one party ruled" while during colonial time you were in big trouble if you shout "ending the Queen's rule or governor's rule.

People in colonies normal have less right, but more freedom. Actually these two facts come from colonizers' one sentiment: "Make money for me and don't bother me on else."

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to begin phasing out the use of Chinese tech giant Huawei's technology in Britain's 5G network as soon as this year, The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday.

Officials are drawing up proposals to stop installing new Huawei Technologies equipment in the 5G network in as little as six months, and to speed up the removal of technology that is already in place, the newspaper bit.ly/3f12gST reported.

The move comes after the nation's spy agency GCHQ raised new security fears over Chinese technology.

A report prepared by GCHQ's National Cyber Security Centre concludes that new U.S. sanctions on Huawei will force the company to use untrusted technology that could make the risk impossible to control, the newspaper said.

The sanctions have had a "severe" impact on the firm that significantly changes GCHQ's calculations, the report said.

The report is expected to be presented to Johnson this week.

Johnson's spokesman said earlier this week that officials will soon complete a review of the implications of the latest U.S. sanctions, which are aimed at cutting off Huawei's access to U.S. chipmakers.

LOL. Did they think it's so easy to just pull out the Huawei equipment and replace it ?
Boy are they in for a surprise.
It will take years. It will be crazy expensive. And it will set back the implementation of the new digital economy.
Good luck with that.
