UK housing crisis: how did owning a home become unaffordable? | opinions of EU members welcome

Very sad to hear about that brother, my prayers are with your mother Raab rest her soul, and yourself. You'll be stronger as time goes along.
I'm glad people are there to check up on you.
Thank you my brother i never get over it but I'm hoping ill live how she would want me to. Those Punjabi women were the glue that helps us prosper just pure dedication to their faith and families. I made her worry during my wild days but she never left me always was there when even my dad turned his back. Waz you can judge Indian women by how they treat their daughters in law my wife told me on the phone that she lost a mom not a mother-in-law. I will bounce back and the aunties and friends here have been so kind and so much love shown I hope to repay one day. This forum is a good way to pass free time thanks for the kind words brother

Thank you for sharing and you're right that our women have done so much, yet for years they were just part of the background. The daughter in law benchmark is spot on.
God give you strength regarding your mother. You are more than welcome here, and you've been a great poster from day one bro.

I bought a house in a nice sought after suburb and it took years of savings to get into the ladder. The gap between average income and property prices has shot up beyond all reason.

We need more social housing to take the heat out of the rental market. That will mean more properties on the market and eventually lower prices. We also need more house building in general tbh.

People might disagree but it seems UK housing market is hijacked by big developers who can build wherever they want but keep the housing supply to minimum in order to held the prices high.

Try to build your own home in UK. It's a nightmare. The whole process of acquiring land, to get planning permission on it , then to get self build mortgage, its truly mind boggling and draining experience.

Anywhere besides London, houses are easier to be found, the government are now trying to slowly move out the lower classes from Greater London to other areas outside London due to the high prices of houses, even getting a house from the council it could takes years and years, but they can provide you a house outside of London within days.

They making it a city just for the rich first with benefit cuts and councils are paying tenants to move.

The funny thing was the excuses some of the English of our parent's age use for the money our parents had I've heard the lot including the goverment gave us tax breaks we lived 20 to a house we were tight all sorts the list goes on. The truth is our parents worked all the hours did not waste money on things that were not needed and started a business that tied them down. Holidays were back home every so often and they saved and saved also they were sending money back home. I am 45 and my wife and kids in the states i miss them so much and truth be told i could retire in 5 years but i won't i have to think of my kids give them a headstart like my dad did to me and my brothers. That work and save ethic my parents instilled in us is the best thing and I will instill it in my kids. My mom died a few months ago and truth be told my whole world has been ripped away to not have a mother's love no more is devastating i just want to lay in bed and smoke or digest something that will takes this feeling away. Im alone here i told my wife and family i want it like that but its my mom's sister she not real sister she pakistani she be knocking on my door everyother day with uncle to give me food and check on me she even makes smaller rotis because that how we have themyesterday it was keema and my punjabi brahmin best mate stayed with me first couple of weeks i was a mess and my history of using things to alter mind scared him . Yesterday i was callled a sensitive sikh here but look at what I wrote how can i hate any community when basically they all have shown me love. Im blabering here but we losing them waz and i dont want that hope nobody would have to face this life is so. painful as the years grow

Sorry to hear about your mum passing. It's been a horrible year for families.

That plays a big part of it. These guys get away with it because they bankroll political parties.

Why would they build 1000 houses and sell them for 100k, when they can just build 500 and sell them for 200k.thats thier mentality. They restrict supply deliberately.
