What's new

UFOs: Still a myth.

Tractor? is that your username? I'm still getting used to operating through this website, for I am new. Anyway, you said "I am now learning about some theories about moon the shape and stripes of mountains like Everest and Nanda Devi are odd just like a monster or a monk's face as some one had pointed out. Have you ever think or study aout these things?"

Interesting question. I should brief you with my background. I've studied sociology in college as i have always been intrigued with social phenomenon. My minor was psychology. i learned about perception there. I was always fascinated with human behavior. I am also fascinated with perception. Humans take for granted what they observe. This doesn't mean that we always misperceive what we see, but sometimes we do.

I am not familiar with the monk's face or the monster-looking mountain, specificly. But I am familiar with the (planet) Mars face. Proponents of this theory believe that the Mars face was deliberately constructed by a lost Martian civilization. It also has been pointed out that the pyramid-like structures on Mars, like the Mars face, is connected to Eqypt's pyramids. Obviously, for these theorists they believe that there's some connection between humans on Earth and what seems to be a lost civilization of intelligent life on Mars.

By the way, the legend of Atlantis - a lost continent with a highly advanced civilization - was invented by Greek philosopher Plato. The Greeks, namely the philosophers, were intrigued with their advanced civilization. What were the exact reasons why Plato invented such a story, I really don't know. But it does seem that a highly advanced civilization in Atlantis reflect the ideals of the Greeks. The characters of ancient Greek gods, were cultural projections of the Greek culture, where the incredible abilities of the gods were nothing more than the reflections of ancient Greek idealism, ideals to aspire to that only the gods could reach. Here in the modern Christian West, some have said that only God is perfect. Therefore, for Plato, Atlantis represented the ideal state of a civilized culture. Moving into the modern era, Atlantis resurfaced right about the late nineteenth century. The belief in exterrestrials wasn't in vogue until the late 1940's, and there are some that connected Atlantis with the idea of aliens visiting Earth in the ancient past. For those believers, it explains how ancient civilizations came about. The aliens are believed to be advanced and knowledgable and were the only ones that could've helped the presumbly ignorant peoples of the ancient past. There are people searching for the lost continent of Atlantis. Some have claimed they have found it. In reality, they have fallen short of what they are looking for. Atlantis has yet to be found.

When in 1976 the satellite Voyager took a picture of a pyramid-like structure, it was noticed that there was a face on top of the pyramid. NASA looked further into this. They demonstrated with another photograph that the Mars face was only a trick of light. Sightings of UFOs, who also plays tricks on human perception, tend to mystify eyewitnesses. Out of being stumped comes the need to explain the mystery. Here in the West, particularly the U.S., there have been reports of sightings of the Jesus or the Virgen Mary on a tree, or even on food lke a taco, or toasted bread. Sometimes out of patterns of lines of anomolous images, like ink blots, the human mind finds familiar patterns recognizable to one's culture. Ever look at clouds and see what appeared to be a familiar object, like a face, an animal, or a person.

We as humans tend to find meaning in our lives. We have been living in a era of uncertainty, anxiety, confusion, and fear. Many believe the end of the world is near. This can partly be blamed on the new millenium, refered to as "millenialism." These anxieties are nothing new. Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon went to Florida in search of the "Fountain of Youth," where the water had magical properties of making one young once again. He never found it.

Interesting,I also studied sociology in college and I remember clearly that I pronounced the word sociology as social-ology when I talked to an enterpriser come from West Virginia who correct me.
Thanks for your response with such interesting stories. Here I want to say something I had said again. The mystical phenomenons about moon certainly hapan day by day or year by year and the mountains with odd appearances physically be there.People used to neglect these things or see them like not seen them, why?Just because they are meaningless and our lives are short?

As you said the rumors about UFO were brought to me and many other chinese 30 years ago at the time that the social change just began.
Now UFOs nearly out of my mind .I am now learning about some theories sounds authentic about moon and notice that the shape and stripes of mountains like Everest and Nanda Devi are odd just like a monster or a monk's face as some one had pointed out.Have you ever think or study about these things ?As a writer I admire what is your opinion?

30年前?怎么听起来想老头子啊~

Those who don't believe in UFOs and aliens must be crazy. The evidence is mountain-loads. For example, more than 5 million Americans have been abducted by aliens and have seen many grey/reptilian/human alien species for the past few decades. There is also physical evidence because there are implants found inside their bodies and when removed, analysts say the implants are made from a rocky mineral isotope not found on anywhere but on asteroids floating in space.

To say that people who saw or claim to be abducted by aliens during sleep as a mistaken perception of sleep paralysis is also untrue because i have had many sleep paralysis in my years of life but i have not seen any greys or apparitions under sleep paralysis, proving that seeing aliens in bedtime is not a product of delusions or sleep paralysis but real aliens paralyzing people and taking them.

It is absolute fact that aliens exist. Not conjecture.

However whether they have interacted with humans in any way is questionable.

Dragon Emperor: Let me introduce myself. My name is Albert Ramos and I live in New York City. And yes, I am a UFO skeptic.

You called non-believers of UFOs as "crazy." We might be. There are many reasons why a person like myself don't believe. You say the evidence is in abundant. I looked at the evidence and their not convincing. So, there is no evidence. I will address in a moment.

It is believed that the aliens come from another planet. This belief became prominent in the late 1940's when scientists were talking about going into outer space. UFOs, first called flying saucers, began in the U.S. in 1947. It wasn't believed that the Flying Saucers were from outer space, rather they were a secret weapon of American or Soviet origins. This kind of perspective reflects the conditions going on at the time. It was the Cold War as many Americans were afraid of a Soviet attack. The secret weapon theory changed when writer and former military personnel, Donald Keyoe, declared that Fying Saucers were interplanetary. Keyhoe went further. He accused the Air Force of a cover up. The UFO conspiracy was born, but that's another story.

Consider, if you will that UFOs are misidentified aerial objects. More than 90% of UFOs have been resolved, which means they were identified. UFOs were identified as man-made objects, such as satellites falling back into Earth, silver-colored spy planes, weather balloons, or even conventional aircraft (sometimes military airplanes). Bear in mind, it was the Cold War. The U.S. goverment and military engaged in classified activities in part as espionage over the Soviets and the development of space travel since America just began an intense space race with their world rival the Soviet Union. Bear in mind, it was the Cold War.

Also consider that UFOs are also of natural phenomenon. Sometimes clouds were misidentified and on occasions even the moon. The twinkling of stars were also misobserved as well as the most common celestial object, the bright planet Venus.

Despite that we have the additional remainder of unsolved cases, UFOlogists tend to say there are of possible exterrestrial origins. Interesting that they say the word "possible." Afterall, do we know for sure? Indeed, there are some UFOlogists that are so sure that unsolved cases of UFO sightings are exterrestrial. When skeptics ask for evidence, they resort to saying that the U.S. government is covering up the evidence. Is this an admittance of a lack of evidence? UFO conspiracy theorists have given specific details of a cover up that it would n't be a cover up since the conspiracists "know" so much information. They tend to forget that the speculations of a UFO conspiracy are merely accusations, not actual facts.

Also consider the burden of proof. This is on the UFOlogists, not the skeptics. I remember I was called for jury duty. A prosecuting attorney explained the process to us would be jurists. The prosecutor's role was to find the defendant guilty of the crime he committed. This lawyer made it clear that the burden of proof was on him. This is true when it comes to the U.S. court systems. It must be shown that the defendant is indeed guilty. This is done by demonstrating credible evidence. I'd suspect that if the subject of UFOs were to go in front of the judge, he most likely would throw out the case. How does abducting aliens get arrested and prosecuted when they are so elusive in the first place?

Mythology is not necessarily false. However, human history is loaded with incredibly spun tales that are believed by many. Urban legends tend to develop out of rumors and seem to cater to the need of being afraid of the unknown. It's interesting that anomolous sightings depend on their environment. The Virgen Mary is reported to be seen in Catholic countries. Ghosts used to be spotted long ago in cemetaries. This explains the shape of American tombstones.

The reports of alien abductions are rumors as well as hysteria. Many so called abductees, after suspecting something weird, go to a therapist who often know something about UFOs. The alleged abductees get hypnotized with the intentions extracting hidden memories. Abductees claim they don't remember being abducted until after a few hypnotic regressions it became clear that they were. Or were they? Hypnosis is not reliable to extract memory as it is more of a method of implanting false memories. Psychology is showing that human memory can be fragile. It is certainly possible that people remember events that actually never happened.

Skeptics have pointed out that abductions may be a result of sleep paralysis. Much of the sleep paralysis experience does coincide with the alien abduction scenario. One is frozen on their beds and can't move while a shadowy figure appears in the bedroom. Some among sleep paralysis victims, have reported floating. Abductees have also reported floating in the air as they're escorted on the space ship. Not all sleep paralysis episodes are alien abduction experiences. There are many that have had sleep paralysis episodes while not having alien abduction experiences. Alien abductions and the sleep paralysis are hard to ignore as not being connected. In the middle ages, Westerners were kidnapped by faeries and taken to a magical place as they floated there. This sounds like sleep paralysis. it just so happen that the figures Europeans saw were Faeries, a culturally accepted motif for its time. It is true that not all sleep paralysis is an alien abduction experience. sometimes a sleep paralysis is a Outer-Body-Experience and sometimes it's nothing more than a unnerving event of what could be a hostile dark figure present in the bedroom. Some in history have reported a woman dressed as a witch sitting on their chest while paralyzing their victims. This is known as the "Old Hag." The nightmare is over when we fully awake.

There's the idea that abducting aliens are implanting some kind of devices onto abductees' bodies. Alien abduction proponents have also pointed out that the metal of these purported "tracking devices" are so unique that they can't be found no where else on Earth. Some skeptics looked into the matter and found nothing of significance. We do know that foreign objects can accidentally pierce the skin of someone. They can acquire a splinter or a glass object while running in the beach. Diabetics are notorious for receiving foreign objects on the bottom of ther feet and not feel it. Dr. Leir investigates matters of alien implants. He actually removes the alledged implants of so called alien abductees. His own colleague has even pointed out that one his patients had calcium deposit on his toe, not an alien implant.

UFOs and alien abductions are a complete myth. Like ancient cultures that created their gods, people in today's times created aliens as either angels or demons. Nonetheless, UFO mythology reflect the times we live in.

I am not clear about the differences between sleep paralysis and dream.Believe it or not,in the year 2004 maybe 2005 I occasionally had the experiences that I was flying controlled by myself.I know that was not in dream but not for sure.I can only say that experiences so amazing.

Tractor: sleep paralysis is a state between being awake and REM sleep. As far as your flying experiences, I can't tell if you experienced sleep paralysis episodes or was dreaming during the REM stage of sleeping. Look at this link. It might be helpful. Look up "sleep paralysis." Wikipedia.org. has a good article. Also, look up Susan Blackmore. She has something to say about sleep paralysis and alien abductions. I tried to provide a link. I don't have enough posts to do so.

.
To Albert Ramos: Your points might seem valid, but you forgot something. According to a scientist(i forgot his name), aliens with technology thousands of years far ahead will possess technology that would seem like magic to us. It would be easy like a piece of cake for aliens to conceal definite evidence about their existence while at the same time choosing who to reveal themselves to.

Also based on testimonials of US and other people around the world, they saw aliens walking thru walls and one abductee even claimed that an alien hit with with a beam of light that caused him to pass through the roof of his house like some sort of phasing technology like in Star Trek's Beam me up Scotty. Lack of definite evidence does not mean that aliens are not here on Earth, they're choosing the right people to spread word of them before all humanity is ready for the truth.

Some even claim that a group of aliens know as the Anunnaki created humans and that all religions are created by aliens as a means by aliens to help humans from self-destruction throughout history and once we reach the nuke age.(with religion, humans can self-control their lust, desire and destructive tendencies at acceptable levels to prevent humans from self-destruction).

I do not object the existence of UFO but these eyewitness reports and theories about UFO are ridiculous for obviously utilitarianism tendency.

.
Dragon Emperor: You say that (or a scientist) say that the aliens are so far advanced in their technology that not only would it appear magical to us, but this is also how they elude detection. There are some that do say that we have gotten our technology from aliens. Are we that stupid? In the last century in a half, we have come a long way. Our lives in many parts of the world has improved. Of course, we still have some ways to go. The point is that science and technology have progressed like no other time in history. This is not due to aliens. We can thank the hard-working scientists and engineers as well as medical researchers that have dedicated their lives to their relavent endeavors. Some are so stumped of this rapid change in the world that they speculate it could only have been aliens that we get our technology from.

The same idea applies to the 'Ancient Astronaut Theory,' a theory that postulates that ancient peoples, such as the Mayans, the Eqyptians, the Indians, the Chinese, the Greeks, and so on and so forth, could only have had their spectacular civilizations with the help of exterrestrials. To them, that explains the magnificent ruins left behind. So they say that the ancients did not have not the technology to build such magnificent structures, like Eqyptian pyramids. The ancients were more than motivated and used whatever resources they could find to construct those monuments. Were the ancient peoples really that stupid as well?

There is also the idea that aliens are using advanced technology to elude detection, and that the technology they use would appear like magic to us. Abduction researcher, Budd Hopkins, talks about this in his book he co-authored with Carol Rainey. The book is called Sight Unseen. Hopkins mentions how aliens are using cloaking technology to elude detection. This idea has its origins in science-fiction. In the Star-Trek television series, the Romulans - known enemies of humans - were depicted as having such technology. Even though we have come a long way, we have yet to have the ability to become invisible, like the movie The Invisible Man. Hopkins' was heavily criticized by skeptics, especially Phillip Klass, for not providing adequate evidence of alien abductions. So, Hopkins made his aliens so far in advance that there's no way we could detect them with our presumably inferior intellect and technology.

Consider that we have come a long way in the modern era. This includes the scientific method. It is the best method that we have for finding "truth." Some have said that science makes mistakes, but it is usually other scientists that make those corrections. Science is a self-correcting mechanism. Having said that, we have the ability to measure such claims like UFO sightings and alien abductions. When both were scrutinized by using the scientific method, they fell short of confirming any presence of exterrestrials on Earth. We need evidence to confirm this is happening. Some have said even without evidence, it doesn't mean aliens are not here on Earth. This is a logical falacy, for how does one know if aliens are truly here? Many have chosen to believe in aliens based on faith, even if some have said there's evidence for aliens, when in actuality there's none.

The large majority of the scientific community have turned their backs on UFOs. UFOlogists have called scientists closed-minded for this and among other reasons. Every now and then, a scientist gets involved in UFO investigations. There are those that make a big deal about this. Why is it that the vast majority of his science colleagues don't even get involved? Even scientists are wrong with their observations. That one scientist involved would need the help of scientists to correct his mistakes. Many UFOlogists don't even adjust their hypothesis in the face of criticism. They would rather reject the critics and continue believing their unproven ideas. Hopkins is the same way. This alien abduction researcher is not even a scientist. He's a visual artist by trade. He uses hypnosis to extract what he believes are hidden memories of alien abductions.

I explained earlier that hypnosis is not a reliable tool extract memory. That it actually implants false ones. Look up hypnosis. The alien abduction is a real experience, but it is only real in the inner part of reality (our minds). Alien abductions don't take place in objective reality. When one is having dreams, hallucinations, or relives experiences under hypnosis, anything in that realm is possible, such as walking through walls. Hopkins also asserts that a women by the name of Linda Cortile was abducted from her 12th story Manhattan apartment. He claims there were witnesses and yet this story was not picked up by the media. Why not? Because the story is a hoax. Alien abductions are simply rumors and delusions of fantasy-prone invdivuals. The evidence also shows that the majority of abductees tend to be Caucasians in the U.S. and Western Europe. Particularly in the U.S., there are very little Afro-American, Hispanics, or even Asian Americans that are abducted. Susan Clancy mentioned this in her book Abducted. Do aliens favor White people over any other race or do we have a "psycho-cultural" phenomenon of mass hysteria?

As modern society advanced, a myth was born to reflect the technological anxieties of our time. Since secularism arose to challenge religious tradition, the so called "chosen" few are subjected to fanciful medical experiments by a highly advance culture. For many of the abductees, the abduction experience is a religious transformation. This is a new faith in the West.

To Albert Ramos: Now that you've pointed that out, why is it only in the USA and other Western countries where sightings, reports or allegations of encounters with alien beings such as greys and reptilians etc are found? Why not in other non-Western countries? I have yet to see allegations of alien abductions in Japan, China, Thailand, or other Asian nations.

Is it because of cultural differences caused the locals to perceive the aliens as ghosts or demons, thus causing the eyewitness not to report what they have seen because ghosts and demons are not as scientifically legitimate as aliens? Also, Mr Albert Ramos, are you of any religion's follower or are you an atheist? I am a freethinker and i will believe in anything as long as there are facts and evidence to prove it.
