UAE Tolerance Minister Says Orlando Shooting Shows Islam Has Been 'Hijacked by ISIS'

I doubt it has much to do with either ISIS or Islam... mass shooting is not new in USA and the guy just happened to be muslim.. there is no evidence of religious or political motivation behind shooting...

UAE has a tolerance minister?? Just like ministry of magic in harry potter series.

There is rather clear evidence that it was religiously and politically motivated. Do to the ready availability of guns and our culture of individual freedom, mass shootings may be more possible but that cannot excuse the motivation of these criminals and it's important to understand them. Dylan Roof, who shot and killed nine people in a church last year, was not just some nut or just another mass shooter. He was a white supremacist/neo-nazi and it would be a disservice to the victims to simply dismiss his motivation. In the case of Omar Mateen, his crime is hardly an isolated incidence. It is very much in line with the mass shootings in San Bernardino, Paris, etc. These shootings cannot be dealt with effectively without examining the motivation behind the crimes.

I wonder why this story wasn't on all the media outlets and talk shows throughout the world for weeks, oh I get it, Americans killed by any other ( fill in the religion) white guys aren't worth reporting.

Gee, it was! It was literally, covered in depth by all the media outlets for weeks and was the topic of commentary of everyone from President Obama down to the mayor of Charleston. President Obama and dozens of other high ranking leaders attended the memorial services for Roof's victims, the president giving the eulogy there. It doesn't get more high profile than that.

there is nothing common between what Omar Mateen did and what happened in San Bernardino/paris... the paris attack was well orchastrated attack by islamist with political cause, san bernadino was by a radicalized islaminst.. this one is not on that pattern simply because there is no evidence to suggest. I know there is a pattern of islamists attacking civilian(the global jehad) but this is not that one. Am sure there are many white non muslims who went on rampage due to personal issues and white supremacist is not the default narrative we go for when we hear the story. We seek positive evidence for it. Obama jumped the gun just because the guy is muslim, thats a false pattern to go for.

. .
because there is no evidence to suggest.

You keep saying that despite the fact that there is ample evidence to suggest that exactly as the San Bernardino attack perpetrators for example, Mateen was a self-radicalised Islamic extremist. That is ISIS' new strategy and it works.

what is the evidence of Mateen being self-radicalized islamic terrorist.. the law enforcement themselves are not sure anymore... has there been any new evidence of his radicalization, of his uttering any religious-political statement that can match the usual global jihad pattern?... except the fact that he swore allegiance to ISIS and ISIS took credit(like they always do, ready to claim that they did everything hence the most badass)...

I'm not sure where you are getting that "law enforcement themselves are not sure anymore", as that is not at all what law enforcement actually investigating the crime is saying here. Mateen had a plethora of evidence on his computer, cell phone, contacts, etc. that he had become radicalised for some time, with numerous statements made by him to those around him, as to his radical Islamic beliefs. Indeed, one the the people who reported him to the FBI before the attacks even happened, was from the Mosque he attended, who was worried about his radical beliefs. I'm baffled that you are unaware of this.

Yes, those reports have been discredited as no credible evidence of any kind has been found that substantiate them...

What the Justice Department has stated is that the evidence is clear from transcripts of his calls, that Mateen was a self-radicalised Muslim who based his attack on those beliefs...

Omar Mateen calmly claimed credit for the massacre and identified himself as an "Islamic soldier'' while calling on U.S. authorities to stop the bombing in Iraq and Syria, according to partial transcripts of the attacker's telephone contacts with dispatchers and crisis negotiators released on Monday. "Praise be to God, and prayers as well as peace be upon the prophet of God,'' Mateen told a 911 dispatcher in Arabic just after 2:30 a.m., June 12. "I am in Orlando, and I did the shootings." Mateen provided his full name during the 50-second call and then went on to pledge allegiance to the Islamic State and its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
