UAE-funded cadet college opens in Pakistan
In implementation of UAE President’s directives, Cadet College Wana inaugurated in Pakistan’s South Waziristan

Dubai: The management of the UAE Project to Assist Pakistan (UAEPAP) has announced the completion of the Cadet College Wana, which is the largest educational project in the South Waziristan region at a cost of $5.4 million (Dh19.8 million).

The gesture is in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to provide humanitarian and developmental aid to Pakistan as well as support and enhance its educational sector.

The announcement was made during an official opening ceremony of the college in the presence of Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif; UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Eisa Abdullah Al Basha Al Nuaimi; Abdullah Khalifa Al Gafli, Director of UAEPAP, a number of staff members of the UAE Embassy in Pakistan, Pakistani Army commanders, top government officials and dignitaries.

A presentation was made at the inauguration ceremony about the phased completion of the project, as well as a brief on the humanitarian and developmental projects run by the UAE as per the directives of Shaikh Khalifa.

General Sharif, along with Al Nuaimi and Al Gafli unveiled the memorial plaque. The audience extended thanks to Shaikh Khalifa for the gesture which represents an important addition to promote the educational sector in Pakistan.

The participants toured the college and were briefed on its facilities which include halls, classrooms, technical and scientific laboratories.

During the inauguration ceremony, General Sharif delivered a speech extending thanks and appreciation to Shaikh Khalifa for his continuous support to Pakistan as well as his generous humanitarian initiatives for its people.

He also emphasised the support given by the UAE’s wise leadership and people for the Pakistani people during humanitarian crises and natural disasters. He added that the UAE has provided all kinds of support to Pakistan, enabling it to overcome crises, through establishing a number of humanitarian and developmental projects, especially in infrastructure development, housing, health and other sectors.

General Sharif emphasised that the UAE has provided huge assistance in the tribal areas in Fata and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, adding that the college is one of the important projects which would contribute to developing the education sector in South Waziristan.

Al Nuaimi praised the UAE’s supportive approach towards fraternal and friendly countries under the wise leadership of Shaikh Khalifa through the establishment of a number of humanitarian, educational, health, and infrastructure projects implemented by UAEPAP in Pakistan. He also underscored the importance of these projects in lifting people’s living standards in the area as well as provision of services to the beneficiaries in health, education and social fields.

In his remarks on the occasion, Al Gafli hailed the generous directives and continuous initiatives of Shaikh Khalifa to support Pakistani people as well as giving attention to the provision of an appropriate educational environment for them.

He added that the opening of Wana Cadet College is a translation of the directives of Shaikh Khalifa, which are aimed to contribute to the overall development of the individual and the society in Pakistan. He reiterated that the project reflects the UAE wise leadership’s permanent care towards the welfare of poor and developing countries.

Al Gafli also lauded the continuous support and follow-up of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs for the project. He added that their follow-up has drawn a far-sighted vision to the planning, humanitarian and developmental approach which had contributed to the success of the implementation of 163 humanitarian and developmental projects in Pakistan.

Dubai: A Pakistani carpenter said he will walk around 900km across the UAE to highlight the country’s peace and prosperity, starting on National Day (December 2).

Mohammad Idris Malek, 54, said he has already covered all seven emirates on foot in 2014 and 2013 during previous National Day celebrations.

The latest cross-country attempt will be his hardest as he’s taking a more winding route to cover more towns between the emirates, Malek added.

His journey starts in Hatta, followed by Al Madam, Zayed, Kalba, Fujairah, Khor Fakkan, Dibba, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Ajman, Sharjah, Dubai, Al Ain, before ending in Abu Dhabi.

“In all my walks, the message is the same: the UAE is an oasis of peace and prosperity that should be followed by the Arab and Muslim countries. That’s what I tell people when they meet me on my journey. I also wish to highlight the spirit of solidarity that we Pakistanis share with the UAE,” Malek said.

The father-of-four said he is awaiting final approval from authorities so he can begin his walk from Hatta on National Day.

His maiden 2013 attempt had gone largely unnoticed but in 2014 he was honoured by the Pakistani consulate in Dubai when he passed by the mission during his walk.

Malek, who works in Dubai, said he will be walking for more than 20 hours per day, covering around four kilometres per hour. He hopes to finish his walk in less than two weeks.

“I don’t need much sleep or rest. The excitement of the adventure and the love people show me along the way keep me going.”

Malek will only carry a small bag with two changes of clothes, a pair of sandals, blanket, a mobile phone, ID, and the UAE flag. He said he will sleep rough and use rest rooms at petrol stations. In 2013, he suffered blisters on his feet and had to cut open the only pair of shoes he had.

“People give me food when they meet me and find out why I’m doing this. They also take selfies with me. Even the police sometimes take my pictures and gives me a short escort,” he added.

“My family back home and friends here are very proud of my mission. My kids encourage me to keep going; we talk many times over the phone.”

Don't act ridiculous, Indians have every right to work in the UAE as does a Pakistani. You don't hear any Arabs calling for kicking out of christian westerners from Saudi Arabia or the UAE.

UAE has been helping you re build Tribal areas. They have helped you re build SWAT and they are now helping in Tribal areas. You should have the audacity to thank them. They hardly do any promotions of it and still people have in Pakistan talk against their true friend

This so called "re-building" is peanuts to what they are offering to India. In case you haven't been following the news, their media has been towing a fallacious Anti Pakistan stance...........This stab in the back trumps all sorts of goodwill. You need to loose this "Muslim Ummah" blind fold a little and see the things for how they are, rather how they should be based on your delusions. They are not friends they are FRENEMIES!

They have been helping you since late 60s. These are not peanuts but some are so selfish that they can see this.UAE and KSA have stood with you when you were in trouble. They gave you money during sanctions and in other situations also

They stood with us and we always stood by them. Times are changing, you are unable to grasp the recent developments and i don't blame you for that.....You are probably one of those people who are raised with lessons to worship Arabs as some superior beings and rightly so they treat the the likes of you as slaves......and you are fine with it. However when it comes to national interests there is no state important than Pakistan and if they are smooching our enemy then clearly they are not our friends.

Nothing is changing. They still stand with us and yes they would do business with India but they will never have that relation with India which they have with Pakistan. And that Arab superior thing is from before Islam and that always will be there. You are the one who have no idea about Pak UAE relationship
