UAE aircraft carrying millions of dollar intercepted in somalia

Perhaps after interception it landed. Interception does not always mean shooting down.

I understand that. The reason I asked is because Somalia reportedly only has 2 or 3 MiG-21s and not sure they're even active at the present time, making an "interception" a little bit dubious.

Just looking for details and facts.

The money is destined to the Sahel... In near feature, they need a shipment a body bags to repatriate their fellow countrymen , before the hyenas get to them..

Nah.this is the 2nd time illegal money from UAE has been seized in Somalia and it won'. Be the last time. This past month UAE launched a paid smear campaign against Somalia gov and somalis but failed.

That illegal money by uae was intended to be used to cause political instability in the country.but it ended up in our central bank.amazing what a gov backed by its people can do .
Long life israel

UAE should stop intervening in local Somali politics and try to destabilise our country.

Don't. The money is gone...

Childish comment, as is the majority of the standard crap on this forum. Notice the only one you tickled was the resident cockroach?

In the meantime, as we've now established, "Intercepted" was quite misleading in the title. Which then leads to all other assumptions such as the money was probably for alshabab and other ridiculous idiocies like that is also misleading, especially when Turkey is holding hands with the UAE in Mogadishu lol. Hypocrisy is a wonderful thing until it's exposed.

In the meantime, sadly for Somalia, that little bit of pocket change will hardly be missed, considering the UAEs financial clout and presence in Somalia.

Correction UAE doesn' have a base in Somalia.they intended to build one and was rejected.their company dp world illegally does business in Somalia and was declared non grata by our parliament.they are hated here.

Long live Israel.

Probably headed for Al Shabab, well done to Somali authorities warms my heart to see Somalia stabilise and proud Turkey is training the Somali army.

Sooner Somalis wake up and see uae and Saudi were destabilising there country the better.

I think it was smart decision by our gov and people to be allied with turkey for better future.Somalia being twice the size of Germany is land of opportunities and gateway.UAE terror lovers are just annoying they are doing the dirty job of their Saudi masters.

How was it intercepted? I don't think that part is true, my friend. Most report are saying it landed in Mogadishu and was then boarded by security personnel and the cargo was seized. Other reports claim the money was to pay for the Somali army facility in Puntland. Any truth to that?
Journalists in Somalia are reporting that the government has impounded an plane carrying an unspecified amount of money, even though some reports put the amount at $13 million cash.
According to Mohamed Moalimuu, Secretary General for the Union of Somali Journalists, the plane was from the United Arab Emirates and had been caught at the Mogadishu airport.

On his part, a VOA journalist, Harun Maruf, reported that the plane was believed to be carrying cargo for the UAE mission in the Somali capital. He, however, quotes sources as saying the amount was unknown adding “its final destination not yet clear.”

The UAE has been on a diplomatic collision course with Somalia over the business dealings of a UAE-based company DP World with semi-autonomous Somaliland.

DP World entered Berebra Port deal with Somaliland along with Ethiopia. Somalia reported the incident to the United Nations weeks back. Somaliland government insists its parliament had okayed the deal even though Somalia’s lower house of parliament voted to declare it “null and void.”

Somalia has been riled by a political crisis that involves the lower house of the legislature and the executive. It is said that the Prime Minister is championing a cause to remove speaker Jawari who insists he is not going to resign.

Local journalists are already linking today’s incident to the political crisis. Legislators are said to vote on a no-confidence motion against the speaker on Monday.

Somalia: UAE jet carrying $9.6m intercepted

An anonymous security official told VOA News that Mohammed Ahmed Othman Al-Hammadi, UAE envoy to Mogadishu, was waiting at the Aden Abdulle International Airport at the time.
Al-Hammadi’s staff tried to take the large sums away from the aircraft but Somalia’s security forces refused to release the bags before they were scanned for clearing. Al-Hamamdi walked back to the plane with the bags, according to an anonymous source.
“The money is for the ministry of defence. It’s for the salaries of Somali soldiers,” Al-Hammadi said.

BREAKING: Somali officials say plane carrying bags suspected to be containing money has been intercepted at Mogadishu. Plane is believed to be carrying cargo for UAE mission in Mogadishu. The amount of suspected money in the bags and its final destination not yet clear, sources.

And it's not just DP world, UAE is involved on a much greater scale.

I can understand that completely. But aside from their military presence in Mogadishu, don't they run the main airport?

However, Turkey is not the only country looking to build this kind of relationship with Somalia; the United Arab Emirates has been pursuing the same contracts. Both Turkey and the United Arab Emirates are aware that Somalia sits on some of the world's major shipping lanes, and they see opportunities to build seaports and other transport infrastructure. These factors, as well as the Somali government's need for outside help, make it a logical target for development by the United Arab Emirates as well. For example, Emirati company SKA Air & Logistics runs the Mogadishu airport, and UAE companies have competed for the development of the port and airport in Kismayo. In fact, the United Arab Emirates preceded Turkey in Somalia and has been operating a military training facility in Mogadishu since 2015. The UAE-taught Somali forces are considered some of the most reliable and well-trained in the regular Somali National Army, which is why they were put in charge of security for the city of Mogadishu several months ago.
