U.S. Would 'Utterly Destroy' North Korea Military, Says Top Army Official

Like I said many times, North Korea won't take US seriously until US starts withdraw its citizen from South Korea. Otherwise is an empty threat.

. .
America has lost in Iraq in Afghanistan and now they want another war. Europeans wont want to join in.
America can decimate korea but will ultimately lose. wars are not just about destroying nations they are about winning hearts and minds after the victory because when the people fight back you cant win. Iraq and afghanistan are prime examples

.
It would be if he actually said that. The headline frames the story that way, but the tone of his speech is far more cautionary as is evident in some of his language such as 'Choices will have to be made, one way or the other. None of these choices are particularly palatable, none of them are good' and 'the consequences of armed conflict is not good, the consequences of a collapsed North Korea is not good'. The words 'utterly destroy' do not appear to have come from General Milley himself but the clickbait sub-editor who framed the story.

But I guess that is not how some posters on this thread want to interpret the speech, it's easier to just read the headline and engage in reactive thought processes.
Like the countless times Trump been drawing lines on the sand? That is considered threats. This one was another threat no matter how you spin it.

Still waiting for Hindu Hanuman to call US chicken. Hey Hindus where are you?

.
You are confusing capability with intent.

There is no confusion but rather a simple fact can US afford another conflict. If US could, it does not get long to get the intent. We have seen Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. However it was a different story when it came to USSR, China and now North Korea. The general has already accepted weakness by stating loss of human life as a factor. Was loss of Human life not a factor in previous US wars?

You tend to interpret things as threats, this particular speech was not threatening in its tone, I watched the interview.

As a piece of useful advice, maybe you should spend less time looking for things to be outraged and indignant about (you keep going on about those 'white people' in numerous posts), you only fill yourself with anger and hatred.

The west backstab Gadaffi after giving up nuclear and lied to the world. They deceive the world that the are the champion of this so call "freedom". It was not about Libyan people, it is always about western interest. Somehow you want Fat Kim to give up Nuclear weapon after this debacle. The west is the aggressor, not the victim.

The US has been tolerating the DPRK for six decades. And look, the OP left another of his "contributions" out in the open. He really enjoys practicing the intellectual equivalent of open defecation.

He boasts, "communes with nature," and hates on China like some people we know. Is OP a false flagger?

He is a Vietnamese, and his only mission here is to make China looking bad

Buddy, there are two components in a war: political and military.

But in a war, the most visible component is the military. For those who actually served in the military, it is the only component that counts. Without the military, the political component is what make a country a 'paper tiger'. Those who declared that the US 'lost' in Afghanistan and Iraq speak from a childish need to see the US in a negative light regardless of evidence. The reality is that it is the civilians of those countries that cheered their 'victories' while their militaries hangs their heads in the shame of being defeated.

So by all means, laughs that the US 'lost' in Afghanistan and Iraq. Former military on this forum -- like myself -- will chuckle at your ignorance.

Didn't know @gambit was Indiano_O

I do not think North Korea is one of the poorest country in the world. In many aspects, it looks more developed than most developing countries with GDP per capita in the range of $8000 - 10000.
Can a small country with GDP per capita of $2,000 has money to develop intercontinental ballistic missile, or rocket to launch satellite into orbit, and in the meantime, make their cities (70 - 80% of population) world-class, like North Korea do. I doubt.
Where do did you get that 70-80% of the North Korean population lives in cities.
Also would it hurt to put on some lights so people can see these world class cities from space?

The U.S. would “utterly destroy” the North Korean military in a war, the U.S. army’s top uniformed official said on Thursday.

Army Chief of Staff General Mark Milley warned, however, that war in the Korean peninsula would be “highly deadly,” bearing a high cost in terms of human life, infrastructure and economic fallout.

“War in the Korean peninsula would be terrible, however a nuclear weapon detonating in Los Angeles would be [even more] terrible,” Milley said in a speech to the National Press Club in Washington, about America’s security threats. “North Korea is the single, most-dangerous threat facing the international community and the U.S. today”

In the past year, North Korean ruler Kim Jong Un has test-fired 28 ballistic missiles, which is more than his father and grandfather during their entire reigns combined.

Since the test launch of what U.S. experts believe to be an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) with the potential of reaching Alaska on July 4, North Korean state media have talked up the country’s nuclear strength, repeatedly threatening a “pre-emptive nuclear strike” to the “heart” of the U.S.

Milley warned that, given Pyongyang’s progress with it's ICBM testing, the time to stop North Korea from obtaining nuclear weapons, a key point in the U.S.'s security strategy, had shortened significantly.

“Time is running out, North Korea is extremely dangerous and it gets more dangerous as time goes by,” he said.

Milley said he did not think there were any good options when considering measures to contain the threat from North Korea.

“Choices will have to be made, one way or the other. None of these choices are particularly palatable, none of them are good. The consequences of doing nothing is not good, the consequences of accepting them with a nuclear weapon that can strike at the United States is not good, the consequences of armed conflict is not good, the consequences of a collapsed North Korea is not good," he said.

"But it does not relieve us of the responsibility of choice. We are going to have to make conscious decisions that are going to have significant consequences," he added.

LOL you just wonder why a top military commander from the US army would feel the need to reiterate this? What a desperation at display.

The Americans don't understand the concept of winning hearts and minds. They only understand how to wage wars and flex muscles. When the dust settles the real war begins and this is when we see the real face of a nation that claims to be almighty powerful. We saw it in Iraq and we saw it in all other US wars. I still wonder how desperate you have to be to make such an insignificant and pathetic feel good statement? You are right. This arrogant nation will never learn.

The most powerful country in the world bullying, threatening and provoking one of the poorest, most sanctioned country in the world. Yet no one calls this bullying because of decades of evil US media propaganda.
blablabla
