WASHINGTON – The U.S. State Department has approved a possible sale of attack helicopters, Hellfire Missiles and associated equipment worth $1billion to Pakistan to help the South Asian country in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency delivered the required certification, notifying the Congress of the possible sales under the Foreign Military Sale program, according to a statement by the DSCA.

Pakistan had requested 15 AH-1Z Viper Attack Helicopters and 1,000 AGM-114 R Hellfire 11 Missiles as part of a deal estimated at $952 million.

The associated equipment include 32 T-700 GE 401C Engines, 36 H-1 Technical Refresh Mission computers, 17 AN/AAQ-30 Target Sight Systems, 30 629F-23 Ultra High Frequency/Very High Frequency Communication Systems, 19 H-764 Embedded Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation Systems, 32 Helmet Mounted Display/Optimized Top Owl, 17 APX-117A Identification Friend or Foe, 17 AN/AAR-47 Missile Warning Systems, 17 AN/ALE-47 Countermeasure Dispenser Sets, 18 AN/APR-39C(V)2 Radar Warning Receivers, 15 Joint Mission Planning Systems, and 17 M197 20mm Gun Systems.

“This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a country vital to U.S. foreign policy and national security goals in South Asia,” according to the statement.

By acquiring this capability, Pakistan will enhance its ability to conduct operations in North Waziristan Agency (NWA), the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), and other remote and mountainous areas in all-weather, day-and-night environments. Pakistan will have no difficulty absorbing these helicopters into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region, the statement said.

The principal contractors will be Bell Helicopter, Textron in Fort Worth, Texas; General Electric in Lynn, Massachusetts; The Boeing Company in Huntsville, Alabama; and Lockheed Martin in Bethesda, Maryland. There are no known offset agreements proposed in conjunction with this potential sale.

. .
dont frustrate, D Trump is a businessman he will sell them for profit unlike obama for charity. I dont think China will bank roll pakistan in this deal.
Now India will be forced to buy something from the americans for parity. And the cycle continues. The americans will profit at our expense.

Blacklist General Electric and Tejas will remain a dream for ever.
Oh . Didnt know GE was the only mfr of jet engines in the world.

. . . .
Helicopters are being built as I write this...some will be delivered this year and rest next year.
That is old this is new and improved deal. A trump gift to fight ISIS.

.
But changing engine means redesigning and HAL will take another 20 years in that.
Frankly we dont even know how potent a platform tejas is at the moment. With us buying so many different fighters in all categories , how imp tejas is in actual combat , dont know. Its more of a developmental model for our airforce and nascent defence sector.

. .
No, it's not...it's the same deal that was made and approved during Obama's time.
It's a trump gift to fight ISIS for current Pakistani operation against terrorism the deal is worth $1 billion the previous deal was less.

. . .
But Pakistan has to pay....
Have you understand this is what India wanted ....... This is Indian game plan actually.
As long as they are paying usless getting charity as before, India will not Complain.

Ah yes, "everything is a masterstroke by Modi" - even losing is considered a victory for you morons.

Face it, US is expanding ties with Pakistan which throws India's attempts at lobbying and isolation into the trash. Also, when did the US ever give us 15 helicopters for free?

.
There is nothing free from USA. You always pay full price, in one form or another.
