Perhaps other nations should follow the US‘ step and start peeping into the backyards of their potential or real enemies。

In this regard,China can begin with Guam and Hawaii in the Pacific and the Bay of Bengal in Indian Ocean。

Or better still,follow where the US CBG goes. Shadowing in international waters violates no laws and therefore is totally and utterly acceptable to the law-abiding US.

Russians have done it many times near our waters. Surely the Chinese can handle the pressure.

You cannot ask or block any ship (ANY SHIP) in international shipping lane at all, that is part of Law of the Sea at Freedom of Navigation.
Regardless of what the USS Cowpens were doing at that time, the ship have the right of its course and any warship that's going too close are very dangerous, ships is not like a car at all, you cannot cut the engine and expect the ship to stop immediately.
According to your logic, are you saying it's okay if I stand on a pavement peeping right into your house and then say, I am on public property and have every right to do what I want?

your act was a dangerous move. what happened if the US warship collided with yours?

So when a U.S. warship from accross the globe runs into a group of Chinese warships in the South China Sea for the usual harrasment of Chinese vessels, its the Chinese ship who needs to make place for the U.S. warships or otherwise its considered "limiting freedom of navigation" on behalf of the Chinese vessels?

Its the U.S. ship harrasing and trying to limit freedom of navigation of Chinese vessels in their territorial and regional waters. The U.S. warships shouldnt come into Chinese Sea and "freedom navigate" into Chinese ships then it doesnt have to "evade" them.

Pretty much nothing. Usually we try to help them if they are in trouble. Even far from our shores.
Russian sub stuck in Pacific;U.S. mounts effort to save crew of 7

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia - Russian, U.S. and British forces were scrambling to rescue seven Russian sailors trapped with dwindling oxygen supplies 600 feet under the Pacific on a mini-submarine caught on an underwater antenna.

A Russian ship grabbed hold of the sub early Saturday and was trying to tow it to shallower waters where divers could free the sailors, a commander said, as a British military plane and a U.S. Air Force jet carrying remote-controlled underwater robots took off for the disaster scene in Russia's Far East, north of Japan.

Moscow asked for outside assistance within hours of news breaking about the sub's plight - a speedy request that was a marked change since the Kursk nuclear submarine disaster in 2000, when Russian officials waited until hope was all but exhausted. All 118 died aboard the Kursk.

News agencies quoted Adm. Viktor Fyodorov, commander of the Pacific Fleet, as saying Russian rescuers had managed to move the sub 100 yards toward the shore, using a dragging or trawling technique that involves two ships pulling a sunken line. But he said the process was taking too long and rescuers were now trying to attach a tow line.

Fyodorov's statements followed a day of desperate rescue efforts and widely varying estimates of how much oxygen remained on the tiny vessel, which became stuck on Thursday.

Both the U.S. and British rescue teams could reach the site off the Kamchatka Peninsula within time - if earlier estimates that there was enough oxygen to keep the seven alive for 24 hours held true. Fyodorov said early Saturday that there was oxygen for "at least 18 hours," a distinctly less optimistic statement than his earlier assertion that the air would last into Monday.

Along with earlier contradictory statements about whether a Russian ship had managed to snag the sub, the confusion over the air supply darkly echoed the sinking of the Kursk almost exactly five years ago. That disaster shocked Russians and deeply embarrassed the country by demonstrating how Russia's once-mighty navy had deteriorated as funding dried up following the 1991 Soviet collapse.

The new crisis is also highly embarrassing for Russia, which will hold an unprecedented joint military exercise with China later this month, including the use of submarines to settle an imaginary conflict in a foreign land. In the exercise, Russia is to field a naval squadron and 17 long-haul aircraft.

The rescue effort underscores that promises by President Vladimir Putin to improve the navy's equipment have apparently had little effect. Authorities initially said a mini-sub would be sent to try to aid the stranded one, but the navy later said it wasn't equipped to go that deep.

Putin was sharply criticized for his slow response to the Kursk crisis and reluctance to accept foreign assistance. By late Friday, Putin had made no public comment on the latest sinking.

I think many of you youngsters FORGET how China once - back in 2001 sent its fighter aircraft in the infamous HAINAN INCIDENT.

US Spy plane EP-3 was on a regular spying mission and was intercepted by the Chinese air force. When repeated warnings were ignored, one of the Chinese fighters rammed his wing into the EP-3 , forcing a landing on Hainan island. The Chinese pilot of the J-8 fighter lost his life in doing what he did.

Moral of the story is that when China wants to STUB someone's nose , it will. Regardless of it being seen by others as a bully or stupid.

Back in 2001, no one could have imagined the Chinese going against a US plane in its vicinity. Much less "side butting" an US aircraft.

Hard negotiations followed and the US literally had to bow down to the Chinese to get back their crew.

With this maritime incident, the next episode if and when it happens will be far more "spectacular" I promise. I sing no praise of China nor am a fan of its bullish maritime policies.. but one thing, YOU GOT to give respect to a nation bold enough to stand up against a SUPERPOWER'S naval vessel. How many nations apart from the Rukies, ever done something like this post WW2?

China is lack of maturity and dignity... Every day new tensions in Asia because new found muscle of china... Quite opposite to the big powers... Lack of responsibility.. and chinese members are here always attack to the thread starters funny guys....

Posing like they only got Nukes can sink CBG etc.... USSR is pretty strong and they can blow the entire planet on daily basis... still why did they accept defeat.. my god chinese claims every day growing growing...
