U.S. has Suspended Trade Privileges With Bangladesh

.
Bangladesh had it coming......workers safety has been a issue for a long time.....This might change thing s for the positive.......even if we loose billions of dollars it will force our corporate sharks to take measures to save thousands of lives.....its a fair price to pay!

.
I am in US side on this one. They gave a clear message and its our turn to improve workers right now.

Workers treatment and rights are prime issues. BUT killing labor leader Aminul Islam by Awami League regime using Rapid Awami Battalion also played major role in US decision. And Awami League leaders killing thousands in Rana plaza was the tipping point for US. It is Awami League and its cheer leading crowd that brought about this disaster and should be held responsible for crime against Bangladesh and damages.

Also they rejected UK aid workers after the collapse that sent a bad signal to the west about what's going on down here that we don't want them to know!

I was referring to US companies banning your products until safety conditions are improved. Disney just announced that they will stop imports from BD. $5 billion trade to US is in jeopardy... and it is no chip change. I am well aware that US was considering you guys for GSP privilege... but those talks have come to a halt as of now.

Well, I was referring to the topic at hand when I replied to your earlier post. I don't know how much of an impact the Disney ban has on the garments industry, but it sure sets a bad precedence.

The suggestions you made in your earlier post requires political will more than anything else - there's enough manpower and resources to improve infrastructure and enforce laws. Unlike many here, I'm optimistic, because by suspending trade privileges the US is forcing labor law reforms on us and all this without endangering our economy significantly.

Some idiot even sent a rebuttal against Pope Francis!

Disney had a very small presence in Bangladesh.

Most of their manufacturing operations are in China.

HAHAHA.......that cracked me up.....refuting a symbolic statement about modern day slavery with 'our laws do not permit slavery'!

The situation of worker was no better at the time of BNP.

If it forces an improvement in working conditions and reduce labor abuse then so be it. I am on US side on this.

Seriously? :woot: These people are suppose to be the largest trade representative org in BD?:hitwall: The content of their rebuttal is also idiotic.

You can not ignore that those labors were forced to stay there for a political gathering in the next day by AL leaders ever after a big crack had been found in that vulnerable Rana Plaza.

Did any labor killed by BNP being so intent on making political gain? So dont equate BNP with BAL when the intensity of crime is concerned.

I heard though can not confirmed that some factory owner won't allow their workers to drink water(as needed) to avoid bathroom break. This is semi slavery. If this temporary suspension bring some human qualities to Bd low life factory owners then I'm all for it.

Exactly right.. I can go on for ever how these owners break laws right and left... These people almost stopped keeping permanent employee but they pay employee on piece basis which is gross violation of labor law which states that they can not employ contract employee more than 10% of total employee. As a result commitment to the employee of the owner is just the next piece of clothe they going to produce and thats about it...

Workers just dont have the sense of ownership to the factory and the mother of all the problem

Building did not collapse does not mean BNP not using worker for political procession. They do it all the time. Yes I do equate all the political parties on the same boat.

It was Awami League (NOT BNP) which forcefully pushed thousands of workers into building that was collapsing.

It was Awami League (NOT BNP) which killed labor leader Aminul Islam. US at every level raised this issue with Awami League regime but Awami League showed complete disregard and plotted cover up for the killing.

BNP is not in power for last 7 years almost.

BUT associating BNP, equating are hallmark of Awami League scapegoat tactics but in age of internet and with documented proofs, these Awami deceptive tactics do not work.

We need to make serial TV programs on Labor's law/right to enlighten the workers about their rights.

Noh, I always saw you leaned to AL/
