U.S. disappointed over IAF deal, but respects process

"Respects " is being used quite diplomatically here , If they had a slightest bit of leverage , they would be at our throats now....

this is ridiculous the way you guys think. first the comment about people to Mexico and India for cheaper health care was not a dig at these two countries. Obama was calling out the US healthcare industry as being like loan sharks. It was rather a compliment that the two countries afford its citizens inexpensive health care costs vs the US that charges too much for health care. This is a classic case of you folks not understanding the nuances of the language.

He is the president of his country and but of course he is going to look after the US interest as a patriot and leader of the free world. Would you expect any different from your PM?

Then this other talk about pressure is ridiculous too- Indian PM also tries to put a word in or vote of confidence for Indian industries all over the world. The problem I see is you guys fall for the meme from your neighbors that play you like a fiddle and fool when they prod about being close to the US. Do you see Pakistan ever crib about China flooding their market? hell China has decimated their industries with an in flux of cheap goods - refused to allow Pakistan export but few goods vs they have a free reign to export all into their country. Grabbed projects where they refuse to have Pakistani companies play equal partner instead insist on having Chinese companies run it all w/ max amount of Chinese workers being brought in. They charge exorbitant interest + decades of royalties on top of that... even with that Pakistanis don't crib about the Chinese . And here you have the US that is gone all out with India, maybe not an AESA but all out in terms of opening India to highly sensitive export list, nuclear deals etc etc.

this childishness in calling the US Amerika and claiming some great pressure was applied is uncalled for and dumb.

Your selectivity in your reply also is ridiculous to say the least. You chose to respond to Spark's momentary exuberance in calling US, errr, Amerika (that's how we evil yindoos refer to US anyway) and his harmless dig, but conveniently chose to keep mum on the much serious issue addressed by him. The AESA ban (rather blockade for AESA deal with Israel) and ELTA.

I understand, it is difficult for you to listen to criticism of your adopted motherland, but at least be fair to our choice also. US's blockade on the AESA had pegged our security aspirations to a great extend. So we are allowed to take one or two dig (unfair may be) at the Amreekans...

And no thank you. We don't want US to be us what China is to Pakistan. So don't bring in that comparison please.

You post talks less about Indo-US but reflects more on your inherent hatred of China (about whom you wrote about in 80% of your quoted post), which is actually completely uncalled for in this thread.

Good move by India.. it was obvious that US and France are the only two states which can help India with developing nuclear bomb and Teja.
Whereas, france took the lead in transferring nuclear technology unconditionally...
The moment Areva set its camp in India.. US knew it has lost the lead.
Where as US is much more dependent on India to achieve its ambitions in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
India has too much leverage over US.... so no chance of any fall back.. so over all clever decision.

You said the right things but in severely wrong context.

BTW Nobody , French or US going to help develop nuclear bombs(we already have some on our own) ,they even might put sanctions on us if they test own bombs, forget chance getting nukes from them.

Congrats India do whats right for you .. just like it goes for any other nation out there US pressure must stay with them in there a$$ times have changed one must do whats right for them .

you need to do you math again because your calculations on percentages is as erroneous as your claim of just a coupe of digs. I've seen many Indians posters being ignorant of the health care comment and many more making comments about some unjustified " hard selling" by the Americans. albeit I choose his post to address it. look no further than this thread to see the bs about some untoward hard selling and look at the US forums here to see comments about obama's healthcare comment being taking comepltely out of context by several indians.

A countries head or state department push for its product is done by every country , only the leverage used differs depending on having any said leverage. I did not ignore AESA i choose to look at the tens of others that US has opened up for India. Recent one being allowing India to purchase and be allowed on the list of highly sensitive technology that is going to assist India leaps and bounds in countless space missions. What would you have liked? AESA or being on that list of " permissible" sale to countries? an AESA can be replicated but the technology on the list India was permitted to join is leading edge and far more important to indian population vs a radar capability.

So India refused to allow US dump their F-18s, US got overestimated but i think US will find way out how to bring India into its technology charms not important through military assistance or nuclear monopolized policy.

Ok, I'll give you that one. I agree that people do tend to go overboard when they are in a internet forum, specially we south Asians. Just like you went on and on about China's unfair practice with Pakistan, when it is not really your business. Like, sometimes I go on and on about US hypocracy with regards to middle-east politics (you know, Libya, Syria, Bahrain etc.), their choice on where democracy should be implemented and where not (like they criticize China's political system at every opportunity but choose to keep mum on worst governances. The irny here is that Chinese are actually happy with their system and prospering at breakneck speed whilst those other government are dragging their Kingdoms, Sultanates etc to stone age), when it should not be my business. But then when we start becoming selective (even with our overboard comments), that's where one becomes a hypocrite. But I do give you this one.

Honestly and personally, I would have liked the AESA deal more. and about those other deals, I am skeptical as those are not aimed at helping India per-se, but have some other ulterior motives, which I do not want to discuss here.

doing business under india's terms.. not US's. This must be a shocker! poor guys.. lifted india out of nuclear isolation. Now india is signing contarct with everyone else apart from US companies for nuclear reactors.
invited US to bid for MMRCA. now US is been told they are not good enough!! ouch... this must be a moment of reality check for US!! like the way india is running rings around US!!

absolutely!! gist of what i'm trying to say is india doing business with US on india's own terms. that's a good thing unlike the way they used to succumb under pressure in the past. i'm sure those hardwares you have mentioned are in india's interest, then so be it! just get what you want. don't just buy for the sake of it!!

btw nimma signature channagide swamy!!

The USA has always been a bit persistent over pushing its defense sales. This is the case in the Middle East.

I believe the defense industry one of the only few manufacturing sectors in the US that is actually doing well, with solid and a growing export market.

Anyways, I think India knows best in what it wants to procure into its air force in an effective manner.
