The plan for carrier 4 & 5 (the one planned with nuclear reactor & EMALS) are on the danger of being scrapped because China still doesn't have the technology necessary for building it.

Even carrier 3 the one planned with CATOBAR are quite uncertain whether it will continue or not.

Type 003 is been built. Type 004 and 005 will be oil powered. China in hurry to build up numbers so no nuke powered carriers until the 10th unit or so.

055 has more VLS, larger VLS, better AESA radar than Arleigh Burke. It is armed with longer ranged antiship missiles and equal range anti air missiles. The US is the one that has to counter the 055.

Seawolf can't operate freely with anti-sub aircraft and frigates overhead nor can they actively ping for submerged diesel electrics like the 041 sub. Otherwise they risk detection and losing one of 2 is devastating.

Nimitz can't compete with ground based planes. Carrier based planes are always shorter ranged and less maneuverable than equal sized land planes due to the need for reinforced landing gear.

2 carrier battle groups is like... 2 carriers, 10-12 destroyers, 2-3 subs.

PLAN also has 2 carriers, but 32 destroyers with AESA radar, another 10 destroyers with traditional radar, 60+ subs, 300 aircraft owned by the Navy alone, 36 frigates and 50+ corvettes.

Nimitz has really old radars. All the Chinese carriers have AESA radars.

The next logical step in that direction then becomes, with all that might, how is it china/Taiwan is still an independent Democratic country?
