Type 216: Silver lining for India's much delayed P-75I project

Scorpenes aren't big enough to use both VLS cells and MESMA,IN wants VLS cells on this.Plus u boat is quieter than scorpene.

when we are building arihant for k-15 and k-4 missiles whats the need for brahmos vls with only 300 km range................agreed its good to get both aip and vls but think of time it will take,,,,on the other hand we can build scorpenes at a very fast rate

Man arihant is SSBN/SSGN for strategic nuclear deterrence role.
These SSKs will be frontline hunter killer attack submarines. Those brahmos are for anti shipping role, not land attack. These will exclusively target enemy ships and submarines.

u are right but we have 7-8 operational ssk right now and if we start building a new type with tot we will go scorpene way and deliveries will start post 2020 at the earliest,,,,,thats the worst part

What we need to look at very carefully is the sensor suites on offer. Most sub vs sub battles wont be won using active sonar, but rather passive sensors which dont automatically paint the scanning sub. It'd be interesting to see a comparison of these subs in terms of the torpedoes fired, the time for which they can be submerged without recharging and more countermeasures, and passive sensors, towed ones if available.

then go to french or german subs............russians cannot beat them in sensors(but are better if nuclear subs are concerned)
plus russians have no functioning aip system!!

Can any one tell me why IN does not go for U boat propulsion, which is one of the most silent in conventional propulsion sys. Are there any negotiations?

Which one more comfortable type? I mean in one TV interview, one retired naval officer said that one country's subs are crawling type while the other was like sitting type and the third one had the luxury of walking. I would not name the countries but could somebody experienced say something?
