Two US nationals kidnapped from Quetta
Published: September 12, 2011
QUETTA: Two American nationals were kidnapped from the Qambrani Road area of Quetta on Monday.
Express 24/7 correspondent Muhammad Kazim reported the two people were travelling on Saryab Road and had been picked up by unidentified gunmen when they reached Qambrani Road.
There has been no claim of the kidnapping so far.
Police and Frontier Corps (FC) have reached the site and have cordoned off the area to conduct a search operation.
In August, an American aid expert was kidnapped at gunpoint from his house in Lahore after gunmen stormed through the back door and overpowered his guards.
The US embassy identified the man, who police said was 63 years old, as Warren Weinstein and said that he worked for a private company. He was snatched before dawn in the upscale Model Town neighbourhood, just two days before he was due to return to the United States after spending more than four years in the country.
Earlier in July, a Swiss couple was kidnapped from the Loralai area while driving through Balochistan.
The Swiss couples blue Volkswagen van was found abandoned after they were snatched in Loralai district, around 170 kilometres east of Quetta.
According to visas stamped in their passports, they arrived in Pakistan from India on June 28.
The pair entered Balochistan from Punjab and may have been heading for Quetta, possibly en route to Iran, officials in Islamabad have said.
