Two protesters shot dead in Balochistan | Newspaper | DAWN.COM

QUETTA: Two people were killed and four others, including a cameraman of a private television channel, injured in Balochistan’s Bakhtiarabad town on Saturday when security forces opened fire on people protesting against the killing of wife, daughter and driver of MPA Bakhtiar Domki in Karachi earlier this week.

A strike was also observed in parts of the province on the third consecutive day in protest against the killing.

Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani has ordered a judicial inquiry into the shooting.

Eyewitnesses said a large number of people belonging to the Domki tribe blocked the Quetta-Sukkur National Highway near Bakhtiarabad, in Sibi district.

The call for the wheel-jam strike was given by the Baloch Republican Party (BRP) and it was supported by the National Party (NP) and Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M).

A Sibi-bound convoy of Frontier Corps coming from Dera Murad Jamali was stopped by the demonstrators.

The FC officials asked the protesters to allow them a passage, but the protesters refused and raised slogans against security forces.

They condemned the killing of granddaughter of Nawab Akbar Bugti and sister of BRP chief Brahmdag Bugti.

Personnel of the Frontier Corps opened fire after they exchanged words with the enraged crowd.

The protesters claimed that it was straight firing that caused death of two civilians and injuries to four people. The FC sources in Quetta, however, said that personnel opened fire in the air to disperse the crowd as the situation was getting out of hand.

The dead and the injured were taken to a hospital in Sibi. Doctors said all the injured were out of danger.

The deceased were identified as Bando Khan Domki and Miandad Khan Domki. The injured included Ahmad Khan Domki and Afzal Ahmad, a cameraman of Aaj television channel.

The inquiry into the incident would be conducted by a tribunal to be headed by a senior judge of the Balochistan High Court. A district session judge will be a member of the tribunal.

Shopkeepers put down the shutters and streets gave a deserted look in Khuzdar, Kalat, Mastung, Gwadar, Turbat and other towns of the province.

I hope the culprits are caught if the protesters were unarmed

but if the protesters were also brandishing weapons then I cant fault the security forces.
guns are openly waved and shots fired in the air while making a point in our protests. throwing stones on public and private properties and burning public transport is deemed an essential element without which a protest is not considered complete.

.
funny how people immediately think that protestors in Balochistan were unarmed!

Because it is a norm in the society of Pakistan to openly brandish weapons.

But if they were un armed, then the culprits should be punished by the law.

.
nobody knows who killed Bakhtiar Domkis family, they will always blame ISI.

Did you even read the whole news? It says that according to the security personnel they had fired in the air to disperse the crowd, they would have mentioned it if some protesters were armed. You should not always try to prove how, despite being a "baloch", a patriotic Pakistani you are.

If the protesters were causing chaos and damage to public/private property, or like others mentioned were armed, then its the right thing to shoot at their legs, just to disarm them. I'm sure that the security forces are all aware of the laws and will not just intentionally fire without any strong reason. This is the Pakistani paramilitary, who aren't going to kill innocent civilians, unlike done in Northern part of Pakistan, but neighbor's forces.

The culprits are the dead it seems.

thanks for your post.
it has nothing to do with being a patriot or otherwise

have you ever heard of a word error of omission or omission of convenience? I am sure you must be familiar with the word called editing?

the media portrays the picture "the way it "sees it. it may or may not be the complete picture.
the current media corporations are business concerns with their specific agenda and a line. things are exaggerated or ignored completely. unless you are there yourself you wont know it.

case in point. Al Jazeera shows a video of Palestinian protesters and it will show the Israeli forcs charging on the children and firing in the air and towards them.
BBC shows the video of the similar or shame incident with a closeup of the emotionally charged protesters throwing "dangerous" rocks at the soldiers and their armored vehicles and one soldier putting a handkerchief on his head to ease the pain from a stone hit,

although there might be a motionless protester lying few yards away which will be conveniently edited.

coming to the story. my post is based on my experience on how the media gives us the stories and you might notice the word "if" before my comment about the crowd possibly being armed.
to-date I have never attended even a single march of protest or solidarity or anything where no one was armed and no weapon was being waved. its part of our culture and patriotism has nothing to do with that.

You are peddling propaganda and personal biases, and probably professional ones too. Your effort to give a character certificate to one of the world's most maligned armed forces and somehow linking that to Indian forces is a lame attampt at diversion.

You must be closely linked to the army, I know the type.

Its funny how when stone throwing , property burning protestors in kashmir valley are shot by the Indian forces it becomes Indian army ka zulm , but when unarmed protestors are shot in Balochistan , it is okay .

This is the very hypocrisy due to which people have stopped taking Pakistani voices with any seriousness.

and thats the most important thing... the "Perception" !!

If we want to save the institutions, we will have to share power, and let the right person do the job best fitted to their upbringing...

On February 8th, an open hearing on Baluchistan will be held by the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Foreign Affairs. The hearing will be brought by the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, chaired by Republican Congressman Dana Rohrabacher.

violence and the resulting grief is not Funny
I dont think the human suffering can be described as Funny

you are equally responsible for the circular arguments that your side makes when the issue of Kashmir is raised as of new you are at the seat of moral judge now.

granted we have many weaknesses but loot at our members, can you compare any Indian members who are openly critical to Govt and the army? we have a healthy population of regular Pakistani members who are regularly critical of the army and Govt policies because we know we are not perfect.

just look at the posts of Muse, mastaKahan, Leader, Salmakh84, AlBhatti, Niazifighter and many more who say things that might not be possible to say in Indian forum if the target is Indian army.

we are very upset with this incident as much as we were when an innocent was gunned down in Karachi by the Rangers. whatever the circumstances, the Assistant commissioner failed to administer the protest properly and should have prevented the situation from going into a point where the security "allegedly" fired directly into the crowd resulting in the deaths.

this incident will be used by the miscreants and more innocent lives can be lost who have no role whatsoever in these killings.

Yes dude, the media either exaggerate or ignore the facts. The security forces must have killed at least a dozen Balochs but the media is hiding the truth and pursuing its "specific'" agenda. You are allowed to concoct more fairy tales and keep trying to convince yourself that most of the people are gullible fools just because you think so.

And most of us also know how savagely our security forces / army act when dealing with unarmed civilians and run away with their tails stuck between their legs when they face equally equipped enemy forces.
