Two Pakistani soldiers were killed and one injured in cross border firing near the Afghan border in the restive northwest, officials said Sunday.

"Two soldiers were martyred and one injured when militants from Afghanistan opened fire on Pakistani troops," a senior security official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

He said the incident took place in the Barmal area of South Waziristan, which shares its borders with Afghanistan's Paktika province.

The incident was confirmed by local administration officials and other senior security sources.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

In May this year, the Pakistani army claimed to have cleared the last militant stronghold in the country's northwest after a three-month long operation.

The army launched the operation in mid-2014 to wipe out militant bases in the area and end the near decade-long insurgency that has cost Pakistan thousands of lives.

The operation was intensified after the Taliban massacred more than 150 people, the majority of them children, at a school in the northwestern city of Peshawar in December 2014.

The border with Afghanistan is a mess and we desperately need border security controls to minimize these incidents. It also doesnt help when Afghanistan harbors terror groups that target Pakistan security personal as well as children. They have head quarters in kunar and from there attack pakistan. It seems here they targeted them whilst hiding near the border. It could very well be the ANA as well since they have shown tendency of hatred for pakistan and the torkham incident highlighted how out of control they are.

Never the less the lawlessness of Afghanistan will always create issues on the Durand border and to combat that we need to supply and equip our FC fully as well as create check posts, fences, trenches e.t.c to make sure the area is manned and protected.

The other one poster as well. His post was so beyond ridiculous that words can't even describe it.

The thing is that death even of our worst enemy is not a thing to be celebrated. It is a solemn affair and that is exactly what Islam teaches us as well as the culture of pakistan.

If anybody celebrates death then he is wrong in doing so and if one celebrates or take pot shots bcz his opposition is doing it, then he stands worse bcz it highlights that deep down he was always happy and glad and is now coming out in the open using it as a justification.
