Two men have been arrested over the horror rape and murder of a Dublin resident who vanished in India.

Liga Skromane was found strangled and decapitated in a mangrove forest in Kerala on April 21.

Police initially believed she had taken her own life, which had been disputed by her family.

The grim discovery in Chendilakari on April 21 came a month after she went missing while on an extended break with her sister at a wellness centre.

The accused are only identified as Udayan, 24, and Umesh, 28.

State Police chief Loknath Behera told the media at a press conference on Thursday that Ms Skromane was lured to an isolated, marshy area where she was drugged.

After being sexually assaulted, the 33-year-old who lived in Swords in north Dublin was murdered.

Mr Behera said: “It was a brutal homicide. The investigation was dependent on the circumstantial evidence and we were able to crack it based on the scientific evidence.”

Both men are known to police in the Panathura and Kovalam areas.

IG Manoj Abraham said: “The victim was walked up to the area by the drug pushers. They gave her drugs and sexually assaulted her.

“When she resisted them, she was killed. There were no eyewitnesses because the locality is isolated.

Both the accused have been charged with first-degree murder, rape and under the section 20B of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act.)

The police were investigating the sexual angle after the strangulation was confirmed.

An autopsy confirmed last week that she had been strangled, forensic reports confirmed there were blood clots in her brain, there were also bruises on her neck and legs.

Asked why there are no security cameras in the tourist areas, he said: “We have installed cameras in the busy areas and the main city, but installing a camera in the tourist area would breach the freedom of the foreign tourists."

The police conducted the press conference after Liga’s funeral, where they discussed the challenges and developments regarding the case.

It was a private affair that included friends and family.

Morale of the story: Do not buy drugs.
Her drug addiction caused her to follow the two drug peddlers to a remote jungle to buy LSD from them. After an argument over payment they raped and killed her.
The culprits should recieve capital punishment.

As per police sources, the duo, who are in custody, were involved in drug peddling and lured Liga to the secluded mangrove forest where they goaded her to buy drugs. When they demanded money from her, they came to know she had no money with her and in a fit of rage attacked the 33-year-old. The chemical examination report of the internal organs and other forensic evidence are being awaited.

Moral of the story: don't go to rapist land India.

Another moral of the story is that Indians will always remain rape apologists.

Front page news in Ireland.

Look at the vile creatures.

The main thing the Irish news didn't report is that Uadyan is a gigolo by profession. And eye witnesses had seen her along with him strolling the beach. The reason why police were able to zero in on the criminals.

And I guess being with a gigolo in an unknown nation simply mean business. :p:

She was with the wrong guys, at wrong place at wrong time. I suspect the deal between them went totally wrong. o_O

Thats exactly the kind of mentality india needs to fight. Looking for reasons and defending rape is common practice among politicians and ignorant masses like yourself.

As if you guys are immune to it. Firstly please provide justice for 100's of kids from Kasur who where sexually abused over the years. Then go ahead and redicule others.

Shame on a country which don't give justice to their daughtera and have almost zero conviction rate against rape crimes. Sorry, but it's not me but your own senators who had acknowledged the fact on record in your parliament.

When someone knowingly go out on a date with a known local gigolo, what else should we expect ????

P.S: It's not the responsibility of the government to provide security for every tourist or anyone if their social and moral conduct is totally wrong. :hitwall::hitwall::hitwall:

Bla bla bla typical indian mentality of pointing fingers at the others. Why not shame on a country where girls are raped in Mandirs? Why not shame on a country where 8000 farmers committed suicide last year, why not shame on a country which is the most corrupt country in asia, why not shame on a country which is killing innocent Kashmiri people for last 60 years? Why not shame on a country which is mother of terrorism in south asia? Why not shame on a country where people like you come out and defend rape by pointing fingers at the other and justifying rape? Why not shame on a country which claimed to become super power by 2012 is host to worlds largest pool of poor and malnourished people? Why not shame on a country where 60 plus children died in a hospital ICU as hospital ran out of oxygen cylinder. Why not shame on a country where people are butchered for eating beef? Why not shame on a country where a mass murderer becomes a PM? Why not shame on a country which spends $ 64 billion on importing weapons while poor children die in slums. Why not shame on a country where the top 1 percent get 73% of total income.

I think thats enough for some one who (if any) has some shame & dont quote me again in your stupid illogical posts.

She did not deserve to die like that. What if one of your family is a drug addict, would you approve similar kind of fate for her???
