ADEN (Reuters) - Local militiamen in the southern Yemeni city of Aden said they captured two Iranian military officers advising Houthi rebels during fighting on Saturday.

Tehran has strongly denied providing any military support for the fighters, whose advances have drawn Saudi-led air strikes.

If confirmed, the presence of the two Iranian officers whom the local militiamen said were from the Revolutionary Guards would deepen tensions between Tehran and Riyadh, who are vying for influence in the Middle East.

Yemeni militiamen say captured two Iranian officers in Aden

(Reuters) - Local militiamen in the Yemeni city of Aden said they captured two Iranian military officers advising Houthi rebels during fighting on Friday evening.

Tehran has denied providing military support for Houthi fighters, whose advances have drawn air strikes by a regional coalition led by Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic's main rival for influence in the Gulf.

If confirmed, the presence of two Iranian officers, who the local militiamen said were from an elite unit of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, would further worsen relations between Tehran and Riyadh who are vying for dominance in the region.

Three sources in the southern port city's anti-Houthi militias said the Iranians, identified as a colonel and a captain, were seized in two separate districts that have been rocked by heavy gun battles.

"The initial investigation revealed that they are from the Quds Force and are working as advisors to the Houthi militia," one of the sources told Reuters.

"They have been put in a safe place and we will turn them over to (the Saudi-led coalition) Decisive Storm to deal with them."

Saudi-led air strikes, entering their third week, hit Houthi and military targets throughout the country on Saturday, pounding government buildings and a presidential palace used by the group's leaders in the Red Sea port city of Hodaida.

Ground combat between armed factions battered southern Yemen, killing around 20 Houthi fighters and two rival militiamen, residents and militia fighters said.

Residents said southern fighters ambushed a convoy of Houthis and allied forces loyal to ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh in a tribal area about 100 km (60 miles) north of the militia's base in Aden, killing 15 of the northerners.

Inside the port city, Houthi forces and local militiamen battled with rocket-propelled grenades and machineguns. Five Houthis and two local fighters died, residents said.

Locals said Houthi forces were shelling civilian areas and trying to push into the Tawahi district, one of the only areas where they have no presence and home to a presidential palace and the city's military port.

While the Houthis deny getting help from Shi'ite Iran and say their armed campaign is designed to stamp out corruption and Sunni al Qaeda militants, Saudi Arabia and its allies describe them as an Iranian-backed threat to regional security.

The United Nations says the conflict, in which the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa in northern Yemen in September, has killed 600 people, wounded 2,200 and displaced 100,000 others.

Sources say the men were part of the elite unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards

Popular Committee fighters backing Yemeni president Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi said they captured two Iranian military officers advising Al Houthi militiamen in Aden. If confirmed, tensions between Tehran and Riyadh are expected to escalate. The Popular Committee sources say the captured men were from the elite unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

Three sources from the PC said the Iranians, identified as a colonel and a captain, were seized in two different districts rocked by heavy gun battles.

“The initial investigation revealed that they are from the Quds Force and are working as advisors to the Al Houthi militia,” one of the militia sources told Reuters.

“They have been put in a safe place and we will turn them over to Decisive Storm to deal with them,” the source added.

On Thursday, Al Sharq Al Awsat newspaper reported that the body of a Hezbollah fighter was found in the Shabwa province following heavy clashes.

Meanwhile Egyptian navy also intercepted Iranian naval flotilla in Yemen and arrested the commander of the warships.

In another attempt to undermine Iranian influence in the region a coalition of emarati and saudi fighter jets bombarded Iranian mainland.

Saudi forces aldo intercepted hundreds of Iranian missiles in the air.

Ground invasion to kick off soon.

Last sequence : after a tight 15 hour long sleep, saudi king finally woke up.

Shoot! :(

IrN rejected this news that wastly spreaded by Al Arabiyah and Western sources with no confirmation or proofs shown to public...

Iran rejected the allegations, insisting that Iran has no Iranian military agents in Yemen...

I guess this should be true as Iran insists this..because if there were any Iranian military or intelligence agents and they get caught for real then Iran will be the loser...

Since the start of "Operation Stop Focking us Persians" or "Operation Delusionals" Al arabiyah news TV channel of Saudis are using every fake and lie to prove its baseless points...This is their 4th or 5th times they exposed being Lie-Spreaders this past few weeks alone...

1- They claimed Houthis deliberately bombed a convey of food (wheat flour) and killed all of them and this shows Houthis are terrorists that hurt people of Yemen....

Truth: Al aseeri the spokesman and operation said in its brief: Saudi fighters bombed a convoy of wheat flour and all the people inside it because they were carrying Iranian weapons inside flour packages!!

2- They published officially in Al aseeri daily show how Saudi fighters destroyed a looooong convoy of houthis' tanks and armored vehicles... Claiming to be indestructible and super power by doing so to poor Yemenis!!

Truth: later it turned out that it was picture of US airforce attacking Saddam in 1991!!!

and few other guffs later exposed by media...
see with what kind of people we,re dealing!!

Well we all know what happens publicly but we often don't know what happens behind the scenes. Bahrain is an example. Many Pakistani balochs are employed in said state countering the poor shias who are standing up for their rights. I am against any such covert alliance but I am painfully aware that Pakistan might be ready to to send troops under the arm wrangling going on under UAE/Saudi auspices to the detriment of Pakistan. We should have stayed neutral in Bahrain and we should stay neutral in Yemen.

But again I don't know what covert deals will be signed by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia because one such deal has been signed between Pakistan and Bahrain. Btw there is even a video where Bahraini protesters are shouting pagal pagal (mad mad) in urdu at troops in Bahrain. Reason? They are Pakistani troops. You can google the video, its in arabic and a guy named Iyad Baghdadi forwarded it to me. Anyone who can read arabic and has access to youtube currently can research this.

Wouldn't it be easier if you just linked the video?
