Two Chinese bullet trains completed a crossing test at a relative speed of 840km/h

Oh, i didnt mean standing on track, rather the idea is standing in the space between two rail tracks some thing like this

There cross air will create a vortex and chances are that anything in between this to track to levitate and thrown out :)
Wouldn't the more likely scenario be you are thrown more to the side and smash head first into the side of the train. I'm no doctor, but I'm going to guess it's probably not good for your health.

Historically, transportation speed is ever increasing. When your grandchildren looks back at you 50 years from today, they'd probably think 420km/hr is slow as a turtle.

This is true, I remember watching a video of Elvis test driving a 50 or 70 miles car. That's slow as balls today.

This is one area, where I see China helping India in setting up Bullet trains.

India is having a massive plan for highways!
Any news for expressways?

Maybe if you're Vietnam, but we all know you don't have the engineering capability to achieve such feats.

That's true.
See the train in the middle, that's CIT500 prototype designed to operate at 500+km/h.

Andrew, do you know what is the spacing distance between tracks?
Technically when a train moves at such high seed, it creates an air whirl (or eddies) around it. So when two opposing trains come (with individual whirls), the counteracting wind force, tries to push the other moving mass laterally causing sway vibrations, affecting stability. The only known method to counter this is by increasing the spacing between center lines of two tracks, leading to cost escalation
But with China now becoming world leader in HST, i won't be surprised if Chinese railroad engineers have employed some new technology. Do share if u have some information on the same!

The gap between the two trains was only 1.6 meters when they met and the passengers, mostly technicians and journalists, felt only the slightest of jolts during the encounter. At a relative speed to one another of 840 km per hour, these trains are effectively travelling at the same speed as a cruising airliner.

There is huge investment plans in expressways too, for Rs 16,680 crore

Good news for India!
Highways are important, they directly connect all the townships and cities.
But expressways with strict access control and higher speed standards ensure more efficient and smooth journey!
Imagine one day you guys can drive from the national capital to Bangalore or Calcutta without a single street light or encountering any crazy 2/3-wheel!

Expressways in Guizhou, China's poorest province

I have only experienced 350+350km/h=700km/h.
Nothing special! Can hold a cup of coffee and walk on the train, no problem.

& that is what i mentioned in my post, that there is some change done with either train super structure or bogie itself, something unique to Chinese HST. I look forward to this detail, although with information i have, the distance should be atleast 4-5 meters.

4-5 m and 1.6 m all correct.
1.6 m is between 2 opposite trains (These new EMUs).
4-5 m is the official "线间距", inter-track distance as in Chinese, the distance from the middle point of one track to another.

For two CRH3 trains on Beijing-Tianjin HSR, the distance between two opposite trains will be 5-3.265=1.735m. Apparently, the new train is broader than 3.265m! Standardisation so important, no variation of different trains in the future!

.
What dose standardisation mean?
Standardised components
Standardised design
Standardised maintenance

If Bombardier-Sifang joint venture wanna have a share in China,
stick to the standardisation!
Making standards for China!

wow this speed is greater then speed of sound, great work

.
Indian news regarding China HSR test vs Indian trains :enjoy:

pls don't....
India has done some great work on their existing railway to test their semi-HSR trains.
And they will have some real ones in the future.

wow this speed is greater then speed of sound, great work
Well, it's relative speed of two opposite trains.
So there will be no that sound effect!

840 km/h?! :yahoo:

This is the fastest we've gotten so far :(:p:

Isn't the fastest one so far Taglo?
150km/h is totally OK on old railways.
Tilt train technology can further increase speed.
During 1990s-early 2000s, we upgraded a lot of old railways to 200-250km/h, but it was quite expensive. Now, we seldom used the speed 200-250km/h (except a few) on old railways, because it will affect freight trains. But one benefit of those 6-7 rounds of speed-up campaigns made all crossings on trunk railway replaced by tunnels or flyovers. We also operate 200-250km/h sleeper bullet trains at night on the old railway.

On test trials yes, Talgo trainset with a diesel locomotive clocked 180 kph.
but we must remember here that it ran on a broad gauge track with signalling support upto 200 kph only.
@Śakra
150km/h is totally OK on old railways.
Infrastrucutre here won't support any higher speed, especially in commercial services.
