Two Asian countries Express Interest to Purchase Iron Dome system

The Spada 2000 is an all-weather, day and night, highly automated, air defence system developed by MBDA (formerly Alenia Marconi Systems). The system has quick reaction time and requires very few operators to man the system. The unit can operate independently or can be integrated with national air defence centres. Spada 2000 is in production and in service with Spanish Air Forces.

The Spada 2000 is an upgraded version of the Spada air defence system providing significant operational and technological improvements, including increased firepower and range, and the capability of coordinating additional anti-air weapons.

In March 2007, Kuwait ordered the upgrade of its Aspide missile systems to Aspide 2000 / Spada 2000 configuration.

"The Spada 2000 is an all-weather, day and night, highly automated, advanced air defence system."The system provides air defence missile coverage of 2,000km². Target detection and tracking range is up to 60km and the missiles can intercept crossing and approaching targets to a range of 25km. The kill probability is high, even against highly agile crossing targets. The system can engage up to four targets simultaneously with Aspide missiles.

Spada 2000 is modularised and integrated into sheltered units, which provides a high tactical and strategic mobility. The system consists of a detection centre and either two or four firing sections, each section equipped with two missile launchers. Each missile launcher has six ready-to-fire Aspide 2000 missiles.

Detection centre
The detection centre contains mission planning capability allowing fast and precise effective deployment of the weapons. The centre is fitted in a hardened shelter with an RAC-3D radar installed on a hydraulically operated mast on the roof of the shelter. The shelter houses the system's operating centre, including the voice and data communications suite.

Auxiliary equipment in the centre includes a global positioning system, a north finder, air conditioning and power supplies.

RAC-3D radar
Aspide 2000's radar is the Selex Sistemi Integrati (formerly Alenia Marconi Systems) RAC-3D, which gives three-dimensional volumetric air surveillance, detection and tracking. The system has the capacity to track 100 targets simultaneously within a range of 60km.

The radar is capable of operating in hostile electronic warfare environments and is robust against clutter interference and electronic countermeasures. The radar features emission control, jamming location, random frequency agility and coded waveforms. The radar's erectable antenna is up to 13m in height.

Operations centre
The operations centre is manned by two operators for mission planning, system deployment and management during combat operations. The computer displays the air threat data in 3D coordinates.

The system tracks, identifies and prioritises the targets and assigns the firing sections to the priority targets. The targets can also be assigned to other anti-air weapon systems. The system is able to coordinate up to ten small anti-air weapons deployed within a 10km radius.

The operations centre can be connected to a remote upper level air defence command centre.

"Spada 2000 is modularised and integrated into sheltered units, which provides a high tactical and strategic mobility."Firing section
The firing section consists of the tracking and illumination radar, the control unit and the missile launchers each with six ready-to-fire missiles. The radar carries out target acquisition, tracking and illumination functions for missile guidance.

The control unit is managed by a single operator. The unit controls all the functions from target designation to missile launch and target intercept and operates in manual or automatic mode.

Communications

The communications suite includes the data links between the detection centre and the firing sections and also internal and external secure voice communications.

Missile

The Aspide 2000 missile is an upgraded version of the Aspide surface-to-air missile. The missile is capable of engaging hostile attack aircraft before the aircraft can release airborne standoff weapons. The Aspide 2000 is also capable of intercepting air-launched missiles once launched. The upgraded missile uses an enhanced single-stage rocket motor which provides increased missile speed, higher lateral acceleration and effective range.

The missile is also in service with the Italian Air Force and the Royal Thai Air Force as part of the Oerlikon Contraves Skyguard air defence system.

The high-thrust single-stage solid-propellant rocket motor provides high supersonic speed and high agility to intercept manoeuvring targets. The guidance system is semi-active radar homing.

i ask a simple question if India was to be given option b/w choosing Iron Dome & S-400 or even S-300p which it will choose. I daresay with the booming economy that India has it can buy both rendering Pakistan completely i dont wanna say it but 'failed'.
I believe that russian system is a counter for UAV & kind-off major tactical weapons including cruise ballistic missile but this Dome is specially designed to counter a artillery based attack mostly its effectiveness against salvo typically make it kind off deadly.
So, India having known for its poor performance in armour ( which backbone is artillery ) will probably opt for Iron Dome to save its fragile tanks from being hammered via Pakistan MLRS

you start well but then degenrate into not so objective analysis.. But i agree to the theme. If this dome performs as well as publicised, it will be the mother of all defensive weapons

.
not the mother of S-400 and their is always a great saying that todays hunter will always be s tommorrows prey. someone else will counter irondomes defences or anti irondome missile system will be built wait and watch for few years

S 400 and iron dome have 2 completely separate purposes. I am looking at an unconventional profile of iron dome which can guard against non missile threats like mortar and artillery fire. The tactical advantage of an advancing armor column protected by iron dome will be unbelievable

Agree on the 2nd part of your post. Its a continuous race. who knows what future holds.. What matters is now...

.
yeah what matters is now but r u sure this defence system can hold on to pakistans state of the art nukes

.
i know this system is not capable of stoping nukes do india defence shield have the capability to defend itself against pakistani powerfulll nukes might

.
hahahahahaha what a joke u have not attacked anyone i have to say u one thing u will 100 percent disagee i know it before im telling u why what u have dont in bangladesh in 1971 war do u forget ur army violated pakistans sovreghnity and attacked us i know u disagree what ever was the probleum in bangladesh india should not interfeared it and u army supported bangalis
We did not attack Pakistan . Ask Bangladesh whether we attacked them, they would say no. Bangladesh is not Pakistan.

.
hello,
If India has any intentions of procuring any such technology then i am sure this will be an issue of great significance on the minds of the Pakistani policy makers, After all what ever India acquires or does Pakistan also catches up on that. For example India acquired AWAC's so did Pakistan, and above all India became nuclear power and Pakistan followed. so a small interceptor of rockets should be a worrisome news???

Whats the big deal, Pakistan, like any country will go for the simple logic of firing dummies into India for these SAM to intercept thus deppleting India's capabilities, be it iron dome or S300/S400. It makes no difference.

This is a tactic used in many different arenas of war. Why the worry.......

In a conventional war, of any kind between India and Pakistan, who are neighbours decreases each others response times anyway, and the first hour will be spent by Pakistan neutralising these defences, making it even harder for these systems to identify which projectile or missile is genuiene or not, cruise missiles however, are a different kettle of fish altogether.

Do you have any idea of the sheer number of mortars and artillery shells fired into enemy territory during war. In Kosovo, I recall being assisted by artillery and tank columns for a period of 7 minutes in which hundreds of shells, rockets, mortars, and many others were fired in a small area. What do you think will happen across India's entire border. reality is very different to theory, as much more comes into play. We used to have Special Forces, burried in the ground for weeks on end who conducted numerous hit and runs, inclusing refuelling vehicles, tanks, missile sights, and comms signals.

Not to fear...........

hello,
Plus i have also read that the estimated cost of the Tamir intercept missile is $35,000–$50,000, which is huge so how many of the incoming shells or rockets will they be able to intercept. However it would be nice if Chinese develop their version of Iron Dome, i bet it would be way cheaper than this one. :azn:

If India gets this Iron Drone System...it will give it a devastating advantage over a war with Pakistan.

Our Artillery, Mortar, MRLS will all be neutralized.

Not going to happen. These are very limited area defence weapons. Pakistan has no intention to bombard such areas that sit in the middle of the population which these type of systems would typically be defending.

Technically speaking, unguided rockets may be targeted if fired in the direction of these systems, however countering Artillery and Mortar fire? Good luck!!!

If the past wars are anything to go by, just the sheer volume of Pakistani artillery fire can easily overwhelm such systems.

On the ABM front too, MIRV capability will be pursued by any side that has its missile systems pitched against a ABM fielding side or the numbers would be used to overwhelm such systems. Given the very high expense of deploying ABMs in any meaningful way (keep in mind that Israel is a very small country so they can actually deploy such systems for a reasonable defence but even they are severely restricted and consider Iranian missiles and the Hamas rockets a major threat).

Gazzi's points are right on the dot. These type of systems cannot scale.

If you re firing dummies, India will still counter attack and hence the first kill will be for Indians. India will retaliate with equal or greater strength to what ever number of dummies or live weaponry.

Hence it is a big deal, its not invincible, but does cause a bigger headache/hindrance to any plans the opposition may have.

Even if you do fire a dummy at areas of civilian population to spend the Iron Dome, why do you assume India will sit quietly ..it would be suicidal, India will do the same, that is target populated areas. The difference, you shot a dummy, we shot a live one!!

Skyguard - Laser Based Counter-MANPADS/C-RAM System
check this similar system might be interested

I think people especially from last generations who comment in this thread, have no idea about countering dummies, these weapons (software driven) can distinguish real ones by following the projectile path. and don't underestimate the Indian artillery that rained in Kargil, even a pak minister was dumb stuck seeing the response. But where will this tit for tat end ? in completely diminishing the scarce Rs in pak BOWL !!! :hitwall:

No it will not because it is not meant for that. Read my post. I dont think Pakistan will start throwing nukes at armored columns specially so close to or inside its own borders.

Also "We have Nukes " is not an automatic answer to every post to which you do not have another response. we are simply discussing capabilities of a defensive weapon..
