Just a diplomatic nicety but it also leads to pilot exchanges and tours. It is possible and perhaps likely that the PAF will send a pilot to the RAF for a year or two to fly with their 9sq and they will send one to our 9sq.

Usually these third party countries tend to avoid conflict of interests in such situations.
There is a nation where they let us sneak in as one of their own in some of their more classified alliance exercises and let us learn

Academy postings such as FIS are or were common. But fighter exchanges are rare, notably with Turkey when it comes to F-16s. Then again it will be nice to have pilots cross-train in different aircraft with different air forces.
