CHENNAI: The state police have started a probe to trace the person who had sent a letter to a television news channel offfice, threatening terror
strikes at several prominent locations in the city.
The Times Now channel received the anonymous letter, neatly typed, threatening to either blow up several buildings in Chennai or to launch attacks on several installations here. The letter also challenged the police to try and stop the terror attack, the plan for which it stated was hatched in Kotturpuram.
"I have forwarded the letter to the concerned agencies and efforts are on to trace the person behind the letter," director-general of police, Tamil Nadu, K P Jain, said.
A special division of the police has been entrusted with the job of tracing the person who sent the letter. Police sources said that no terror alert has been issued on the basis of the letter.
"We have to first trace the man and to find out what prompted him to send the letter," a senior police official said.
