Turksat 4A satellite ready for launch in February

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday attended a delivery ceremony of the TURKSAT 4A satellite co-produced by Turkish and Japanese engineers in Tokyo.

As part of his official tour, Turkish Prime Minister visited the satellite production center of the Mitsubishi Electric company located in Tokyo, where the two satellites TURKSAT 4A and 4B were produced.

Erdogan, in his speech at the centre, stated that the project is a concrete indicator of the joint achievement of both countries in aerospace studies, aviation, science and technology.

The Turkish premier confirmed that the satellite will be sent to the launch base in Kazakstan and will be launched with a proton rocket on February 15, 2014. He added that they have been planning to launch the second one (TURKSAT 4B) in the second quarter of 2014 after its test period completes.

He said that this satellite will also provide television broadcast and satellite communication systems for the African continent.

Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan, General Manager of TURKSAT Ozkan Dalbay and General Manager of Mitsubishi Kenichiro Yamanishi signed the commemorative plaque to mark the satellite handover at the ceremony.

Before leaving Japan, Recep Tayyip Erdogan met the Emperor of Japan, Akihito in Tokyo Imperial Palace at a closed-door meeting which lasted approximately 30 minutes.

Türkiye’nin dördüncü telekomünikasyon uydusu TürkSat-4, 14 Şubat “Sevgililer Günü”nde Rus yapımı “Proton-M” füzesiyle uzaya fırlatılacak.



Rus RBK Haber Ajansı’nın Amerika merkezli “İnternational Launch Service” firmasının haberine göre “Proton-M” füzesi geçtiğimiz günlerde Kazakistan’ın Baykonur uzay üssüne ulaştırıldı. Türkiye’nin siparişi üzerine Japon Mitsubishi firması tarafından üretilen ve 4 bin 850 kilogram ağırlığında olan TürkSat-4 uydusu yörüngeye oturmasının ardından Çin’in batısından İngiltere’ye kadar uzanan bölgede televizyon yayını yapabilecek. 14 Şubat gecesi 23:09’da ateşlenecek olan Proton-M füzesi 9 saatlik yolculuğun ardından yörüngeye oturacak. Türk uydusunun Rus yapımı Proton-M füzesiyle uzaya gönderilmesiyle maliyet yüzde 35 oranında düşürülmüş olacak.

Turksat 4A in orbit

Turkey’s newly launched Turksat 4A satellite is in orbit and ready for initial testing.

According to the information by Turkey’s Communication Ministry, the satellite is expected to be in testing until mid-March and then it will be moved to its permanent slot at 42 degrees east.

The communications satellite TURKSAT 4A was launched from the Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan on Feb. 15.

The satellite is equipped with two 3-panel solar arrays for power generation, a chemical propulsion system for apogee maneuvers, as well as orbital adjustments and navigation and stabilization equipment.

The TURKSAT 4A has a total mass of 4,850 kilograms, and is capable of providing 15KW of power to facilitate powerful communication payloads for mission durations of 15 years and beyond.

It was jointly produced with Turkish and Japanese engineers.

Television broadcasts and satellite communication signals will be able to cover the whole of the African continent, Europe, the Middle East and South and Central Asia with spot beam coverage of Turkey.

Turksat 4A will provide TV broadcasting and communication services for commercial and government customers, with communication payload consisting of 2 Ka-Band and 28 Ku-Band transponders.

TURKSAT 4B, Turkey’s sixth satellite, will be launched on the second quarter of this year.

TURKSAT 4B Internet services provider fees will be fifty percent cheaper in the country, officials say.

That's right brother, Gökturk-series are meant for reconnaissance purposes whilst Türksat is for communications.
