Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will travel to Iran this week on an official visit, his office said, a visit that could offer the neighbors an opportunity to discuss their sharply different views on the war in Syria.

Tehran, along with Russia, supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, while Turkey is among his most outspoken critics and backs the Sunni opposition. Turkey is also close to Saudi Arabia, which has cut its diplomatic ties with Iran.

Despite their differences, Turkey and Iran have largely maintained cordial diplomatic relations. Davutoglu will travel to Iran on March 4 and 5, according to a statement from his office.

. . . . . .
That refers to the first part of the sentence, i.e. His imminent trip to Iran. Anyway, the reason I quoted Sinan is to find out what Turkish media is saying about the subject of the meeting? Do you know?

I havent looked into it yet, the main topics will probably be Syria and new Iranian goverment.

. .
I don't think so....It's known that both countries are at exact different opposites...what's there to talk....maybe it's because of the lifted sanctions.... :meeting:

Media gives no details.
That's what I think too. They had a lot of time to negotiate about Syria during the peace conference.

. .
WTF ? this country now allows terrorists inside its territory !

congrats rouhani for continuing with this legacy from ahmadinejad .

Iran must give a face saving way for Turkey to disengage from Syria. This has been in the works for some time now. The last time, this was offered to Erdogan by SL himself (during the last meeting between them) and SL explicitly told Erdogan to go and think about it. Erdogan obviously did not give much thought to it and the situation worsened for Turkey.

Maybe now, Turkey accepts the stretched out hand of Iran to save itself from further entanglement and drowning. What Iran is offering to Turkey is the only respectful way for Turkey to settle this issue. No one else not Russia and not US and certainly not Saudi Arabia have anything to offer Turkey in this regard. Erdogan should smarten up and take the SL's offer.

What was the offer?

What was the offer?

That Turkey switch to Iranian camp on Syrian issue. That Iran will make sure Turkish interests in Syria are not harmed. That Erdogan makes a round-about and do a rapprochement with Assad, restoring diplomatic relations and accepting Syrian sovereignty. Iran can pull this off, because of the weight it carries in Syria and with Assad. It is now Erdogan's call to escalate further or accept Iran's help. Though with the event of past few months, it is difficult to see how can Erdogan escalate, specially as the conflict is now spilling inside Turkey itself. The only respectable solution here for Turkey is to take Iran's advice.

Do you think Russia would agree with these terms after what happened? They also have considerable weight on the whole issue.

Now Iran needs to convince them to give up their grudge too.
