An alien to her ''own'' history, culture, nation and country is in charge, appointed by AKP, and how she represents those values abroad is seen in the picture.

This is more than a simple scandal, but totally humiliation.

Appointed by AKP? When he appoints someone out of "hariciye" same people cry out loud too!

Erdoğan always criticize our "hariciye" as far from nation's values by using word of "monşer" and his critics say he shouldn't try to change structure of hariciye, otherwise it would be a total disaster for Turkish foreign policy. So this scandal would legitimate and strengthen his stance on this matter.

What is wrong with that? Africans look upto the Europeans and a big portion of our nation is from those roots. Of course she would use it!

What did you want her to do? Wear a headscarf or a flat out çarşaf just to represent our true ottoman roots and culture??

And what kind of impact that would have on our view in ugandan people's minds??

Most of ugandan people are sheer ignorant about the rest of the world, but with this now they can at least somewhat point out to Turkey on a world map when asked, searching around greece etc..

At least headscarf would represent a portion of the population lol

Dressing up as a Greek on republic day is far off representing Turkish culture.

She could have not dressed as anything then like a clown fullstop, or something more regional would be fine.

Well, I find it absurd and ridiculous. But I also think fuss about it is also exaggerated.

And do you know what? I don't think their intention was dressing like Greeks, but Romans!

Wasn't this year chosen as the year of Troy so maybe that was their intention? I sincerely don't understand the fuss either.

When Fatih Sultan Mehmed conquered Istanbul he said that “Troy is now avenged”.

Something similar was said by Ataturk after the Greeks were crushed during the Independence War- “We avenged Hector”.
As you know Hector was the champion of Troy who was killed in a battle with Achilles. After the battle Achilles dragged his dead body around the walls of Troy as an ultimate humiliation.

Another interesting fact is that the Ottoman Empire signed it’s capitulation in the WWI on the British ship named HMS Agamemnon on 30th of October 1918.
Agamemnon was the king of the Greeks who invaded Troy.

ps Do we have a history thread in the Turkish section?

Nah not really but the post you made would be awesome for the Ottomans in World War 1 thread.
