Turks protesting against China attack Koreans 'by mistake' - Yahoo News

Turkish nationalists protesting China's treatment of ethnic Uighur Muslims attacked a group of Korean tourists in the heart of Istanbul's old city on Saturday, mistaking them for Chinese nationals.

Hundreds of angry protesters marched towards the Topkapi Palace on the banks of the Bosphorus Strait in a show of solidarity with the Turkic Uigurs, who complain of cultural and religious suppression under Chinese rule.

Shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is the Greatest), they attacked some Koreans outside the Topkapi Palace, which is visited by thousands of tourists every day.

The tourists were rescued by riot police, who fired tear gas to disperse the attackers, members of the notorious far-right Grey Wolves closely affiliated with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

Video footage by Dogan news agency showed a distraught Korean tourist telling reporters: "I'm not Chinese, I'm Korean."

The incident came amid a row between Ankara and Beijing over Turkish media reports of restrictions on Muslim Uighurs worshipping and fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.

Turkey this week summoned the Chinese ambassador to convey its concern over the alleged restrictions. Beijing in turn denied the allegations and demanded that Turkey clarify its statements.

A total of 173 Uighurs arrived in Turkey from Thailand on Tuesday where they were being held after fleeing China. Beijing expressed displeasure with Turkey on Friday for accepting the group.

Over the last week hundreds of Turkish nationalists across the country have demonstrated to protest China's alleged Ramadan bans.

A popular Chinese restaurant in Istanbul was attacked on Wednesday and had its windows smashed by a group protesters who did not realise it was Turkish-owned and that its chef was an ethnic Uighur.

A predominantly Muslim country, Turkey shares linguistic and religious links with the Uighur community, which has several associations here.

Istanbul/Constantinople is not safe for foreign tourists. At least in Syria, the government is actively fighting terrorists. In Turkey, the two appear to be in collusion.

This bunch of ultra-nationalist turks, which called themselves Grey Wolves, are not just racists but also terrorists.

The Grey Wolves is part and parcel of the Turkish deep state (derin devlet). They are anti-democratic and ultra-nationalistic working closely with NATO's secret armies Oparation Gladio that has been involved in pratically all terror attacks in NATO member states and since the end of the Cold War on global scale.

These are Ultra nationalist Grey Wolf simply Redneck Version of Turkey. Their Love affairs with Pan Turkism hence Uighurs Compelled them to perform that action upon poor Korean Tourist.

Every type of people are found everywhere. For sure treatment of Uighers is a source of concern in Turkey but these incidents should not jeopardize the relations between China and Turkey. Both countries can easily solve these issues together.

All Pakistani's for Allah's sakes stay out of this. We got real emotional Turks on one side and Chinese on the other side and best we keep out of this. We wish that both Turks and Chinese resolve their issues amicably as both are very important countries in their own way.

Salam to to Turkey
Peace to China.

Turks don't care about their own terrorist government's destruction of Syria and Iraq, but are concerned about Uygurs. For the love of God, where is the moral consistency here? When American-Zionist Crusaders invaded Iraq, Erdogan told the American media literally; "we are praying that brave American soldiers will return home safely". Do Turks even know this? If they don't, where does this ignorance stem from? If they do know, why have they forgotten this?

I dont know, you should ask the 37 to 42 million tourists who visited Turkiye in 2014,maybe they know.
How many visited China in 2014?

I just checked, nearly 128 million people visied China in 2014. This is not the problem, the point is, if you are a tourist planning a trip for Turkey, and you happen to read this news, will you keep on your travel without any worries? I guess no.
