Turkish Missile Programs

180 km is pretty impressive, but is that with current engine or the engine yet to be developed.

Aselsan Could Become Involved in Long-Range Missile Defense Construction | Defense News | defensenews.com

ANKARA — Military electronics specialist Aselsan, Turkey’s biggest defense firm, could become involved in construction of long-range air and anti-missile defense systems, company officials said, if China builds a controversial missile defense system for Ankara.

Murad Bayar, Turkey’s chief procurement official, said that his office, the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM), may work with a local company to build an air defense system.

“For that purpose we can work with a local company whose work is in line with our [air defense] road map,” Bayar said.

Cengiz Ergeneman, Aselsan’s general manager, said that his company may volunteer for the task.

“If we want a system controlled by ourselves, we have to make it by ourselves. After completing a medium-level air defense missile, we will also make a long-range defense [system]. We will be dependent on the basic design of the system that we choose. Turkey’s engineering capacity is sufficient to do it,” he told reporters.

But that would come only after the Turkish Armed Forces’ immediate need for air defenses have been met, according to Bayar. Local production would then proceed in parallel with the system chosen to meet that “immediate demand.”

Turkey, a member of NATO, said in September it had chosen an air and missile defense system to be built by China Precision Machinery Import and Export Corp, a company that is on a United States’ sanctions list.

Analysts said Aselsan would in the future base its work for long-range defense systems on the China-made system.

“Apparently, the Turks are hoping to earn certain capabilities from the China-based program and use it for local production in the longer-term,” said one London-based Turkey specialist.

Of course, Aselsan can do it, but the questions are, in which time, with which parameters (quality)?

I think Aselsan gave response to your question at Aselsan-Khazakistan Engineering institute opening ceremony...

You know in Golbasi/Ankara, Aselsan established one of the bigest Radar and microwave module manufacturing center of Europe.

That time, 400m X 1000m area is purchased to establish a new institute for manufacturng/test of missile systems.

Aselsan manager Ergeneman stated out;

-Aselsan strongly insists on domestic development of Long range SAM system.
-Aselsan pushes SSM not to loose any time for desicion to be taken.
-The high capable domestic transistor tech of Aselsan to be produced based on national Gallium nitrat technologies, will be applied for missile seeker head of system. The long range radar which is being developed for TF-2000 under the name of CAFRAD, will be more than enough to command-control-calculate-detection, tracking, firing and destruction of strategic aerial threats from long ranges. CAFRAD will be ready in 2017.
-All those capabilities Aselsan introduces to SSM, is proved capabilities enough to commence domestic Long Range SAM system development.

In additions to those, Aselsan owned R&D department of an S. African institute which is working on electro-optic technologies.

.
Remember, That is the same process Aselsan pushed SSM and caused cancellation of Low and Medium altitude missile tenders (Direct order) to be commenced for domestic development programs called Hisar-A and Hisar-O.

This time, HQ-9B batteries will be operational to meet urgent requirements of Turkish Army, While Domestic Long range Missile system is being developed simultaneously. When Aselsan/Roketsan collaboration voised their demands with a high volume, SSM doesn't have much choice.

Those two institutes are carrying the security of Turkish Republic on their shoulders thanks to their expertises. They are a proud issue among Turkish citizen. When their names are mentioned, Everybody has a good saying for their efforts so Their demands will be an order for SSM. If they insst hat We can develop those f@cking missiles/radar combination that rare countries have, Then They just do it.

They insisted and got the results on Low and Medium Altitude programs.

Whats with Havelsan teaming up with Boeing in 2006 for the developement of a high altitude ballistic missile defence shield ?
Was that false news?

I didn't read anything like but If Havelsan teams up with Boeing for Missile shield, It is about ground segments, unique software developments for integration of USA based systems into Turkey's network like they did with Boeing AEW&C ordered in 2002. The expertise of Havelsan consists those areas...

Has Turkey ever bought Babur missile from Pak or get missile tech?

Turkey didn't get any Babur missile and as far as i know, gaining tech of a balistic missile has been forbidden by a treaty(I couldn't recall the name).

So will never know if our country got tech or not as it would be done in secret. But there were some rumors about it in the past.
