WW1 - Ottoman improvised Trench Mortar

Improvised Turkish trench mortar made from a fired 18 pounder shrapnel projectile and wooden stock shaped like a rifle butt stock. The projectile barrel is made from hardened steel and has been discoloured black by the powder residue. The barrel is clamped in place by a by an improvised metal clamp and secured by two metal bolts. The wooden stock has been roughly carved out of a stock blank and has five holes drilled in to the rear of the butt stock which act as elevation points when the mortar is attached to base plate and cradle arrangement. The cradle for the mortar is missing. There is some corrosion on the metal components. The wooden stock has impact damage from use. There are no manufacturer markings on any components.
