Turkish media deceives public over strength of locally developed arms

.
I'm sure they do, but the author of this piece wouldn't know a weapon if it bit him in the @ss. He seems to think stingers are air to ground (they are short range....but only on the ground? They won't hit a target on the ground)

(edit...HER @ss....explains alot)

@Saleem (or Turkish Selim:))

Brother you should have posted all article. She made a point about the PMSSs that the Stingers are low-altitude air defense systems ans she already mentioned saying "the the Stingers are the most-advanced low-altitude air defense systems and that Turkey developed PMSSs to install on vehicles". What she criticized that although these systems are for low-altitude air defense system, the media informing the public as if the system is capable to destroy Syrian systems. I agree with her, the systems are very important and most advanced low-altitude air defense systems, but no need to exaggerate their capacity.

I also agree with her that our parliament must have the full control on the army and its military expenditure like the western countries. We have no money to waste or make some some countries rich!!!

She also makes a point that "the ratio of arms manufactured locally has reached 50 percent thanks to the 2004 policy and add that Turkey will begin the local production of critical arms technologies this year." is also worth to talk. This ratio is increasing every day and as she mentioned if Turkiye wants to be a regional power, then she must produce advanced military technology for her army. Otherwise, our all speech will be nothing but rant.

exaggerating is what ALL medias do, no?

as for Turkish arms industry, theyve done well enough. The Ottomans in the past made good guns --mostly cannons and such. Tophane in Istanbul had a cannon ball factory there many years back. Today they do adhere mostly to the nato stadard - its worked for them

A policy was implemented in 2004 to encourage local companies to produce arms systems domestically and, when necessary, in cooperation with foreign partners, to strengthen the local defense industry base that was then almost 85 percent reliant on arms systems from abroad. The government decided to earmark financial resources for research and development (R&D) projects in defense systems to be produced domestically.

a lot of countries cooperate in this field...weve cooperated with Chinese, S. Korea, Ukraine, Germany, France, Switzerland etc. We traded nuclear centrifuge tech for ballistic missile tech and know-how from N. Korea and then perfected it, tweaked it (still ongoing)

thats how it always works.....hell, look at how much input from different countries was needed for Eurofighter (though Germans played large role)

theres a prestige behind being 100% independent but in the end, as long as youre safe and fortified that is most important

mate you are wrong , i always say , we even put it down sometimes , we never claimed we could do everything we lack in most things , but when we make something we try to make it good so it can compete with other good countries , so far we can see some good exports , but if you someone reads FATIH ALTAYLI IN HABERTURK you can see hes really telling the truth , government boasts too much .

I agree that government promotes our new defence products more than needed but there is also the fact that public is quite oblivious about developments in Turkish defence industry.

I really love this apothegm of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi

"Suskunluğum asaletimdendir! Her lafa verilecek bir cevabım vardır aslında... Ama bir lafa bakarım laf mı diye bir de söyleyene bakarım adam mı diye!"

yaptıkları haberden bu ülkeyi ne kadar düşündükleri belli dostum

They are making counter propaganda against Turkish army which is a tracherous act and they are doing it in a time we are on edge of a war. Look at it, it's like it's been written by an iranian. Owner's voice Zaman is trying to teach ethics to rest of the Turkish media is a bad joke itself.

We are going to fvcking war! and these dogs are still working to raise distrust between people and the army! What you expect me to say?

Todayszaman is not the most objective newspaper out there, i must give you that. But you are going too far with the insults.

I used to hate the un-informed media for criticizing our Armed-Forces, still not fond of it. But I have come to realise, this criticism helps keep them on their toes, and devise ways to keep casualties at a minimum. (or else you have a Soviet system, where they just throw warm bodies at the enemy). I'm not saying you should like it, I still don't...but it has its place.

@Z they deserve nothing less
@Juice It's nowhere near a constructive criticism. I don't know about newspapers in USA but Turkish media is completely ignorant on military-related topics they only speak to serve someone's political agenda. And they have to realize this isn't a political game this is our national security they are meddling with.

I think government is screwed up and they are looking for ways to put the blame on the army. AKP government never got along with armed forces perhaps i shouldn't expect from them to use military card on Syria. Chicken sh*ts

@Leggionaire, I totally understand the anger many Turks feel towards Syria for shooting down the Turkish Plane.

Heck I was livid with anger when I heard the news and I am not even Turkish citizen.

But you have to understand the Turkish Government Position because they are looking at the big picture.

I am sure PM Erdogan is fuming with anger but he has the responsibility to balance a lot of things such as the country's Economy, Unemployment, GDP growth rate, foreign policy and relationship with NATO, etc.

You just have to trust your Goverment that they will handle this situation in a calm and cool manner with strong resolve.
