Turkish LHD Program | News & Discusions

Great news. Like it or not, F-35A and even her big fatty STOVL variant will be a beast. When the Turkish personnel put their hand on it, all problems will be solved and it'll give the Turkish Navy a very deterrent strategic capability.

It's slower than your major warships, destroyers, cruisers and frigates, but these ships don't need to go fast so their lack of speed really isn't an issue. They act as mobile runways, just sitting where they need to be, they don't need to move too much.
.

Deestroyuers, frigates etc while conducting ASW often employ 'sprint and drift' tactics. Convoying also require then to run faster. But usually not continuously. LIke dogs arounod sheep, they are sheparding So for these vessels cruising speed is 18-22kt, with much higher sprint speeds. Continuous high speed drains bunkers real quick, necessitating at sea refuelling. Which again are much slower ships, that also need protection..

FYI.... Original thread of LHD is this one now you are looking....

By the way... When Hakan comes he may change the title of this thread... I don't know what you & others think...

Because LHD is already chosen.... Also it's name will be LEVEND CLass.... But most of people say this is a LHD or LPD... But i think this is an Amphibious Light Aircraft Carrier...

Maybe title can be LEVEND Class ALAC but when i google i can't see anything called Amphibious Light Aircraft Carrier... :-)

But i found this one... Can it be called as Amphibious Assault Ship ???...

Spanish ship Juan Carlos I (L61) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It says multi purpose amphibious assault ship...

Come on i want to see these words too... AIRCRAFT CARRIER... :hitwall:

:D

@ KUL . We must differenciate why and what for Spain Needs that ships, Spain has so called overseas territory in Afrika. Canary Islands and the enclaves Ceula and Melila. Very hard to decide. Also MISTRAL class is called amphibious assault ship , but without jump ski; others say it's a Helo-Carrier :)
I would also like to say Aircraft Carrier

Uyumuyorsun ? Sahura mi kalktin ?

"Juan Carlos I" also listed in both LAC and LHD/LHA ,while LHD/LHA is also considered as platforms for F35B and AV-8B
AAS , is the general category of the ships which is operating for landing and delivery of MEU marine expeditory units . this includes LHD LHA LAC LPD
Those are just hull classification by US , so we can adopt LHD for our Levend class because it fits well (limited aviation facility, F35B capability , attack- utility helicopter also landing amphibious units ). But shouldnt forget that LHD is also and LAC (light aircraft carrier ) nowadays ,because there is a advanced system like F35B to be operated on them , apart from AV-8B which is a slow and less advanced system.

Nice :)

But basically LHA, LHD, LPH are in the category of Amphibious Assault Ships. Some refer them as amphibious assault carriers. Since the tender is for one ship only, I believe Levent-class LHD Programme would be sufficient.

Mate you said LHD is good because it fits 'limited aviation' ... I think the word 'Helicopter' shouldn't symbolize 'limited aviation' but the word 'Light' should symbolize that 'limited aviation'... Ship's structure doesn't limit aviation but it's bigness limits it... There is ski-jump and this is for jets as you know for sure... So that's why we shouldn't use the word 'Helicopter' for this ship, IMO...

Bu geminin hafif uçak gemisinden eksiği yok fazlası var bence...

Orko has a very interesting analysis in his blog, where he critics the curious names given in Turkish Military programs.
