500 in a year is a big number... that's mammoth.

Gone are the days where troops were transported in Unimogs. I wonder what they do with those Unimogs now.

Unimogs are ideal for short range logistics with low risk areas if we compare the depreciation expenses of modern vehicles.

Oh; BTW by logistics I mean daily food, clothes etc. transportation. They might be useful at this. So; may be we might have better things to do with them then retiring all of those vehicles.

The only depreciation of modern vehicles I can think of wear and tear of engines and suspension components, which can always be reconditioned or replaced... Otherwise the vehicles are built solid to last for long time, for decades perhaps.

Description

The Ejder Yalcin is a wheeled tactical armoured combat vehicle designed and manufactured by the Turkish Company Nurol Makina.The Ejder Yalçin was unveiled at IDEF, a Turkish defense exhibition in May 2013 and production began in 2014.The EJDER YALÇIN 4x4 Armored Combat Vehicle is a unique platform which combines high protection and mobility. It has been developed to meet the operational requirements of military units and security forces in every region including rural and urban areas. During the development of Ejder Yalcin, user's operational & ergonomic requirements were also considered and an ideal platform was created to operate more efficiently and more secure in the modern battlefield. By its unique design and high payload capacity, the Ejder Yalcin 4x4 can be configured for various military and security applications. With its powerful diesel engine, high torque capability and fully independent suspension system, the vehicle offers superior off-road performance.

Ejder Yalcin variants:
The Ejder Yalcin can be configured to be used as Border Surveillance and Security Vehicle, Air Defence Vehicle, Reconnaissance Vehicle, Command and Control Vehicle, Mine/IED Detection-Clearence Vehicle, Combat Vehicle, Personnel Carrier, CBRN Surveillance Vehicle, Tactical Missile Carriage/Launch System and Armored Ambulance.

Armament

The Ejder Yalcin 4x4 armoured vehicle can be fitted with different types of remote-controlled and manually-operated weapon stations according to customers requirements. Standard armament of Ejder Yalçin includes the ASELSAN SARP (Stabilized Advanced Remote Weapon Platform) remote controlled weapon station (RCWS) that can be armed with 7.62 or 12.7mm machine gun, and 40mm automatic grenade launcher. The SARP turret has advanced capabilities and options such as : Fire-on-the-move capability - Day and night imaging - Automatic target tracking - Laser Range Finder for accurate ballistics - Last round warning - Manuel back-up. Other types of armament can be fitted on the Ejder Yalçin such as Anti tank missile system (Hellfire, Javelin, Kornet-E, Omtas, Shershen,...) and Very-Short Air Defense System (VSHORAD) like IGLA missile launching system.
Design and protection
The design of the Ejder Yalcin is conventional for a modern wheeled armoured vehicle personnel carrier with the engine at the front, the crew in the middle and the troops compartment at the rear. The vehicle can carry a total of 12 military personnel including driver and commander. The hull of the Edjder Yalcin is of all-welded steel armour construction that provides ballistic protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters. The vehicle is based on an monocoque structures with integrated v-shaped armoured hull that increase vehicle and crew survivability by deflecting an upward directed blast from a landmine or Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) away from the vehicle, while also presenting a sloped armor face. The vehicle also integrates floating floor plates offering more protection against mine blast explosion under the vehicle. The ballistic protection can be increased by the use of add-on armour. In option, the vehicle can be fitted with cage armour to offer more protection against RPGs (Rocket Propelled Grenades) threats . It has a mine protection level up to 4a 3b according to STANAG 4569 NATO standard. There is two large bulletproof windows at the front of the vehicle fitted with mesh protection. Two single doors are mounted on each side of the vehicle that open to the front. The troops compartment on each side has two small bulletproof windows with mesh protection and one exit door at the rear. There is an one escape hatch on the roof. The Ejder Yalcin has a gross weight from 12,000 to 14,000 depending of the armour configuration with a maximum payload of 4,000 kg.
Mobility
The Ejder Yalcin wheeled armoured is motorized with a Cummins Diesel engine developing 300 hp. at 3,100 rpm coupled to a fully automatic transmission with hydrodynamic torque converter. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 110 km with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. It can accelerate from 0km/h to 40km/h within six seconds. It features a double wishbone, and independent suspension system for all wheels. It is equipped with latitudinal and longitudinal differential locking systems as well as large diameter and wide tires. The vehicle can cross trench of 1.1m maximum, climb side slope of 30% and gradient of 70 %, and fording depth of 0.7m without preparation.
Accessories
Standard equipment of the Ejder Yalcin includes individual mitigation seats to provide protection against mines and improvised explosive devices blast. The vehicle is also fitted with run-flat tires, engine pre-heating system and one spare wheel mounted at the rear of th hull. In option the Ejder Yalcin can be fitted with different types of equipment including self-recovery winch, day or night-vision systems, rear ramp, and explosion suppression and fire-fighting systems for the crew compartment.
