The last 15th July coup attempt with proxies to capitulate Turkey was derailed by many incidences of heroism by the ordinary Turkish folks, but one of them stands the tallest. It’s of an NCO from the Special Forces Command named Omer Halisdemir. At the very beginning of the coup, a proxy general was moving to take control of the Special Forces Command. Seeing that it means the end of the Turkish Republic as we know it the top commander ordered Halisdemir to stop the proxies at any cost even it means he’d be driven to Shehadet. Halisdemir’s reply to his commander was: “Hakkinzi helal edin (make your Hak on me Helal – i.e., I’ll carry out the order to my last breadth)”. He immediately went out and found the proxies trying to enter the campus. He walked straight up to the proxy general, surrounded by ~30 cohorts, and pumped bullets through his forehead which instead of prostrating to Allah-u Azimushshan was prostrating to mere mortals. Magazines after magazines were emptied on him but the message had already been signaled to the coup handlers that the Turkish nation wasn’t up for sale, and every square inch of Turkey would be defended the way it’s been being done for the last thousand years. By this brave act, most of the experts now agree, he single handedly changed the fate of a nation by Allah’s will.
Shehit Halsidemir participated in a joint exercise with Pak Special Forces in Pakistan in 2013. The following pictures were from that exercise. Due to his excellent record in that 15-day long rigorous exercises in urban, anti-terrorism, mountain etc. warfares, the end-of-exercise emblem was personally tucked on his uniform by the Pak commandant of the school. He lived up to the trust and expectations of his commanders from both Turkey and Pak. As for the Turkish folks, he has already settled himself in their hearts as a hero. Nur icinde yatsin – may he sleep within Nur….
