It's a very old photo. At least 5 years. The weapon is a G3A7. Currently they are replaced with H&K-33E and T-50. But Mehmetçik-1's mass production had started about 2 months ago. Soon they'll be entirely replaced this year.
Their are two different calibres (5mm and 7mm), called M-1 and M-2. Can you confirm that?
5.56 mm & 7.62 mm, I think they are still being evaluated against each other. Don't know about any serial production yet.
Because , first bach of mpt is for line calibration and limited production (200 rifles). massive production will begin after calibration , might be in second half of the year.
Maybe he meant testing? You need 6 month for calibration a rifle? Ooookaayyyy...........?!

standard nato doctrines, same for germany.
When you make a weapon (from assault rifles to awacs, fighters, tanks...etc.) for your military.
1- Prototype test by manufacturer
2- Mass production starts, tested by manufacturer again.
3- Qualification tests, done by military.
4- Acceptance tests, done by military again
This is why it almost takes a year for a NATO country to adopt a system/platform/weapon. Tests are highly important. This is one of few solid reasons why western weapons are far better. It takes 2 months for China to accept a rifle.
