One of my friend is in turkey... According to him most of the ISIS men are former soldiers who were in the iraq army. During the reign of sadam most of the men in army were sunni, once shia took over most of the sunni soldiers were removed and shia's got importance. So without any option former iraqi sunni soldiers joined ISIS, which made ISIS one of the deadliest killing force.

Is this the reality which made ISIS deadly and hard to defeat?

I don't know about soldiers but a lot of higher command that used to be in charge during Saddams years are in fact with ISIS

ISIS isn't hard to defeat , its just Syria and Iraq have useless armies , Syria has a decent well trained army at this point but they lost too much and don't have enough equipment left to be a proper fighting force against ISIS and others , but they manage to stand their ground at this point , Iraq was basically on retreat early in the war , they have received a lot of help from Iran and managed to establish a decent fighting force to counter ISIS
