Turkey’s Otokar To Debut New Armored Vehicle ‘Cobra II’ This Week

That's because most of the equipment is foreign, including the steel it's made out of... otherwise it would be more competitive price wise, however, it's very well made.
Why dont we produce the steel?

Why dont we produce the steel?
Turkey already produces armor plates/steel of its own..

But according to Combat Master the steel Otokar imports from Nordic country is of higher quality with better protection properties, apparently its so good that US also imports for its own needs.

Nurol and Roketsan already manufacturing armour plates but Otokar allways prefer to make colabrations with foreign companies, even when Aselsan developed Stamp first time they select israeli rcws long years before, also engine and many parts coming from foreign companies while Turkish companies has capability to produce.

I think it is related that Koç family is member of Masons thats why they ALLWAYS prefer to make colabrations with foreign companies.

Lets not get stuck on specialised steel, Otokar also uses AM Generals chassis which is 'hidden' partner no one talks about or has forgotten.. So guess who else gets royalties

The Otokar Cobra was developed based on the French VBL* design.
Both design support and most of sub-systems imported but assembly line in Turkey. Nowadays, it can be mostly local product after all of these design improvments.
But there is no doubt that Otokar made good money from Land Rovers and Cobra mountings, in past.

Well ther is no need for the steel, ther is no industry in Turkey to make profit. Producing and investing one thing and make money from it another thing.

As far as i remember, this was discussed loooong ago and there was no proof about that. I would like to be happy to learn if new information has arrived.

First Cobra chassis includes mechanical components and sub-systems of the HMMWV ECV Variant, as Combat-Master said. The bodywork design is based on the VBL vehicle, one of the leading designs for reconnaissance vehicles. The Cobra body is a bit bigger in scale. Since these issues have been discussed many years ago, the resources have not been on my mind either.
