Turkey’s Hisar-A SAM passed into serial production

Turkey has successfully vertically test fired missiles for the locally developed short-range Hisar-A surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, the Presidency of the Turkish Defence Industries (SSB) announced on 20 March.

“Hisar-A, during its first vertical firing test from a missile launching system, scored a 100% success against a target aircraft flying fast at a high altitude. We plan to deliver Hisar-A in 2021 and [the medium-range] Hisar-O in 2022 to the Turkish Land Forces Command,” the SSB said in a tweet.

Developed by Aselsan and Roketsan, the Hisar-A system will be carried by an ACV-30 tracked armoured vehicle and will have a range of 15 km.

Make long range anti aircraft missiles , it has a huge market , pak shall be its first buyer

Step by step ! Medium altitude Hisar-O will follow the steps of Hisar-A. It is also in trial phase and I think We will see Hisar-O to pass into serial production within 8-10 months. Later, Siper long altitude missile will pass into serial production in 2022/23.

Why does some AD uses canisters like S-400 while some are like the Hisar??? Also I think missiles are different in looks.

Good news, congrats Turkey :toast_sign:

Indonesia is a potential customer particularly for medium and long range one. I hope Hisar O and Hisar U also passed into serial production soon.

To this end, in 2016, the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) launched the Indigenous Long-Range Air Defence System (GUMS/HİSAR-U) Project later named as SİPER. The contract regarding the SİPER Project was signed by an Aselsan, Roketsan and TÜBİTAK SAGE Partnership on January 15, 2018 and within the scope of the Project, being executed with national facilities, Aselsan is responsible for the development of the Long-Range Search Radar, Multi-Functional Fire Control Radar and Radar (RF) Seeker. The system design specifications of the Project were completed in 2018 and the activities on System and Sub-System Design are being executed. With a range over 100km, the SİPER Missile is planned to function against only air breathing targets in the first stage, but Anti-Ballistic Missile capability is expected to be gained during the second stage. The first delivery as part of the Project is aimed to be conducted at the end of 2021.

are they liquid fuel ? wow the engine burns so clean, and why SİPER has less range and capability then Bavar 373??? i was scared that SİPER going to suppress Bavar but now i see its not as advance at least not at the first stage that you were talking about the second stage now that is a system that i should keep an eye on.

The main concerns for any ADS is jamming, stealth, hypersonic and maneuverable targets.

Range is very important, however, if those 4 are not addressed, the ADS are out of commission due to jamming or stealth attack or maneuvering hypersonic cruise missiles.

Range was the main concern 30 years ago. Now other areas are of equal concern. The Iranian ADS are tried and tested to be of top quality. I hope the Turkish ADS are as top quality.

Nice to hear that, so now the code name is Siper. Indonesia is still lack of medium and long range SAM system. There is a requirement for that but I believe we will not execute that until 2025 because we need dollar for other project like KFX/IFX, SU 35 acquisition, and submarine. Current administration is also focusing more on infrastructure project and suffer from currency weakening due to trade deficit. So there is plenty of time for Turkey to perfect the system.

Dual pulse, solid propellant rocket motor, smokeless fuel technology, TVC control, very advanced national IIR guidance with national photo-detector technology, SAGE developed warhead and IIR/RF seeker head options on all Hisar family. In additions, Siper missile at the beggining was considered to have a range around 70-90km, later It is agreed to make Siper have a range beyond 100km: ~120km range and 30km altitude. Siper has a scope as area long range air defense missile system which will be equivalent of Pac-3+ or Aster-30 missiles and Turkish Navy will use Siper missiles on frigates/destroyer programs.
Note that There is another long range air defense missile program with a scope of “long altitude long range missile defense system”. It is officially said that New program will have capabilities better than S-400. At present, Aselsan has officially started to develop 4 axis divert and attitude control for out of athmosphere engagements and It is predicted that Aselsan DAC will control the exoathmospheric interceptor of new SAM program. Besides, Aselsan develops an ultra long range radar system to detect ballistic missles from very long ranges. It is believed that new SAM system will work together with giant radar, while Aselsan EIRS will be the main radar of Siper missiles.

The Turkish surface to air missile structure will be shaped by capabilities as following;

  • National Long Range, Long Altitude SAM system
  • S-400 Missiles
  • Siper National Long Range SAM
  • Hisar-O/O+
  • Hisar-A
  • PORSAV Manpads
  • Korkut

I can easily claim that Turkey has great experiences at microwave sensors, electronic warfare solutions and electronic technologies. Those areas are the first Turkey has declared its maturity. At present, Turkey is developing one of the most advanced jammer programs (rare systems in the World) called Hava-SOJ, special electronic support signal intelligence/DF aircraft called Multi-INT, land vehicle called Koral and naval systems called Ares-2N/S/NC/SC. The nations who only mastered on jammer technologies can develop jammer resistant systems because If you don’t know where the threat come from, You can not take needed precuations to challenge for it.
