Altay, Turkey’s first domestic tank in the making, has received much interest from the country’s allies, said Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) head İsmail Demir said Jan. 7 during a presentation at parliament.

“Including Pakistan and the Gulf countries, we can say that countries that we have good relations with are showing a large interest in the tank. Representatives of some countries are being invited to the ongoing firing tests,” he said, adding that the tests were extremely satisfying.

“Lately, we have seen that Saudi Arabia’s interest was big,” he said.

The SSM officials said at the briefing that five prototypes of the tank have been produced and succeeded in tests in different spots across Turkey.

The winter tests of the tank would soon be done at the Sarıkamış district in the eastern province of Kars, known for its challenging climate conditions.

Demir’s deputy, Köksal Liman, said the SSM had a sum of $6.2 billion of funding from the Defense Industry Support Fund and some $2 billion of the total was still in a bank account.

Liman briefed the lawmakers on 13 other projects, including a long-range anti-tank missile, a modern infantry rifle, a domestic ship, a landing platform dock and submarine.

Turkey is also developing an APS (Active Protection System) for it's tanks named "Akkor".
Currently, only Israel has an operational APS called "Trophy", but few more nations are working on such systems, includion Russia, USA and more

I won't be supurised if AK 3 mentioned by HIT head turns out to be Altay. It can also be considered as AL HAIDER project @Dazzler @DESERT FIGHTER @Tipu7 @Sulman Badshah

. .
400 to 500 Altay in Pakistan would give our enemies heart attack

I believe it's not compatible with our infrastructure we need to upgrade a lot or may be it may work for us in hilly areas and flats whereas in desert areas mostly our Al-Khalid will deal.

. . . .
Can any1 plz ellaborate how good is our Al-Khalid compared to this Turkish tank ???

It has to be good, the defense companies involved produce one of the most finest vehicles. It is based off of The Leapord and Black Panther two of the most advanced tanks on earth. This has to be a must-buy for Pakistan; but after a year of good evaluations.

saudi arabia stabbed them in the back and went for the k2's instead

in regards to pakistan..... no, its to heavy at 60+ tonne it will be unsuitable for desert operations in the thar region.
and at $5+million its not exactly cheap. but i can see some of it technology being transferred to Pakistani platforms ak1/2

No KSA haven't stabbed Turkey in the back. KSA is still interested in Altay but will wait for new engine which is not from Germany.
