@Neptune I was wondering if you could tell us whether it's the Army or Gendarmerie that's been sent to Africa. I was thinking that it would be more beneficial to send the Gendarmerie due to their function as both Law enforcement in rural areas and their military capability.

Or do we not differentiate like how I imagine, but send a "task force" that's a combination of both.

It is joint task force composed of Land Forces, Gendarmerie, Naval Forces. I do not come to see any source claiming the presence of Air Force personnel. But I think its likely that they are present in Somalia as well.

"This war machine attached to the Ministry of Interior apparently is becoming an important foreign policy instrument. The gendarmerie command, which has been in close cooperation with Italy and France in training and joint exercises, also executes its own train-and-equip programs in Macedonia, Gambia and Somalia. Now it is eyeing Eurasia for 2018."

after the break up of somali civil war 1991,while the rest was in conflict,somaliland declared unilateral independence and sought recognition from world community but no one recognized her.it is relatively stable region.it is influenced by ethiopia which seeks cheaper port access then dbouti-another somali inhabited republic.inside somaliland,some tribes are pro secession while others support greater somalia.but due to the weakness/negligence by somali gov,the pro secession voice is stronger.even,its ally ethiopia can not recognize somaliland due to oromo muslims who constitute 1/2of ethiopia wanting secession and founding of oromo speaking republic.somalia gov considers somaliland as special status federal state within united somali federal system.
the region has been neglected by previous regimes.
