Turkey to Help HEC in Setting up a Technology Park in Pakistan

Turkey will provide technical expertise for establishment of a Technology Park in Pakistan, while it sought help for strengthening of Urdu departments in Turkish universities.

It was decided in a meeting of Turkish delegation led by Professor Dr. M A Yekta Sarac, President, Council of Higher Education (CoHE) Turkey with Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed. The Turkish delegation visited the HEC Secretariat here on Thursday.

On the occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by both countries to enable collaboration in different fields.

The two sides agreed that Pakistan and Turkey have a number of similar priorities for higher education and both the countries need to synergize their potential in addressing future educational, scientific and technological challenges.

It was agreed to initiate joint research, faculty and student exchange programs, and setting up centers of excellence in fields of respective expertise.

It was also decided that Turkey will provide technical expertise for establishment of a Technology Park in Pakistan, while Turkey sought help for strengthening of Urdu departments in Turkish universities. It was also discussed that Turkish universities will initiate signature projects in Pakistan.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed briefed the visitors about development of Pakistan’s higher education sector since HEC’s inception in 2002 and how different initiatives taken by Commission to improve equitable access, ensure quality, develop human resource and promote relevant research have borne fruit.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed also elaborated HEC’s effort to establish Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) at universities, Business incubation Centres (BICs), Technology Fund, National Skills University, Prime Minister’s Laptop and Fee-Reimbursement Schemes, different local and foreign scholarship schemes, research grants, Pakistan Education and Research Network, Digital Library and a few other programmes.

He said Pakistan has 178 public and private sector universities, though access has increased but a lot needs to be done to further improve quality of education for country’s youth.

The Chairman said that Pakistan and Turkey have agreements for collaboration in higher education sector, adding that this partnership needs to be strengthened further.

The President CoHE gave an overview of Turkey’s higher education sector. He appreciated the reforms brought about by HEC during the last decade and hoped that their visit would strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education.

He said it is a good sign that Pakistan and Turkey have a strong basis of collaboration which can be further expanded. He shared the Turkish experience and said that access to education was increasing but they were well aware of the quality challenge that confronted them. He said that at present there are 185 universities in Turkey and over 150,000 faculty members and around 6.8 Million students.

In my Alma Mater the technology park is doing a lot of good staffs specially in the field of high tech defense. I sincerely believe fresh grads from Pak universities have much to contribute provided the right incubators are provided. A bold step - May Allah-u Azimusshan bless it. Nothing else is more endearing to me than the sight of young folks working day and night on difficult engineering problems with Ashk-i Ibadet...

We need more of this. We need to replicate our relationship with China, with Turkey. Turkish people share a lot in common with Pakistanis (especially Southern Turks) in terms of religion, culture, heritage and physical appearence.

The future i see is to divide the OIC countries into "geographic administrative zones", i.e ECO will become like EU, Arab League will become a union and similarly, Indonesia, Malaysia will form a similar union. Then OIC will be able to coordinate those blocks as per a mutually agreed agenda. This way the three blocks i propose will function together without centralized power.

This is where things are headed as we speak. And i agree Turkey is closer to Pakistan than Middle East, culturally. Some sort of a federation of Turkic states plus Pakistan is not infeasible in the coming decades. Given Pakistanis elect leaders they deserve and need

Physical similarity is temporary, but spiritual closeness is permanent. Hence, Turkish folks consider the Paks as one nation two states. No wonder at the most difficult time in Turkey's history the Muslims in the British India came to her aid...

I certainly can. I was born, raised and have lived in London UK all my life. The most cosmopolitan and multicultural city on planet earth so I am very well qualified to answer this fact. I have seen all nationalities and races on earth en masse constantly. Contrary to popular myth and propaganda one thing is certain, the vast majority of Pakistanis DO NOT look like Indians. It is very easy to differentiate the 2. Pakistanis generally bear virtually no physical resemblance to Indians whatsoever. In fact if anything, Pakistanis strongly physically resemble Iranians the most. Then Southern Turks and Arabs. When I go to the Mosque every Friday I notice that it is very difficult to ascertain who is Pakistani, Iranian/Persian, Turk or Arab.

The Pathans and Baloch of Pakistan are directly related to/descended from the same race as Iranian/Persians and Southern Turks/Kurds. That is why these Pakistani groups strongly resemble Middle Eastern peoples. Although the Sindhis of Pakistan are generally dark they have strong sharp features that are common amongst southern Middle Eastern tribes. Punjabis of Pakistan are the most varied group who vary from traditional Pakistani to Middle Eastern features.

Apart from language, Pakistanis share far more in common with the above mentioned peoples than we do with anyone else.

Why not. We share so much in common with Turkey, both peoples love eachother, Turkey is an economic miracle and has world class expertise in advanced technologies and science.

Never ashamed of your past history or ethnicity bro. If you proudly claim i am sindhi origin pakistani or Punjabi origin pakistani the above mentioned ethnicity people will respect you. But if you brown nose them with, we pakistani looking similar to you they will never respect you. Each ethnicity hav distinct culture and history never compromise on that.

Not at all. I'm merely stating facts. Not questioning the origins of the Pakistani race. Just mentioning personal observations. The fact is that a large proportion of Pakistanis physically resemble Middle Eastern peoples. That is an undeniable fact. Just like the fact that many Germans and Poles physically resemble Scandanavian peoples or many Southern Europeans resemble a lot of South Americans.

A lot already do. Here in London, Uk there is a lot of mixing and intermarrying between Pakistanis, Iranians/Persians, Turks and Arabs. An indian in india can never ever know or understand this.
