Turkey dismissed global opposition to its military operation in Syria on Tuesday and slammed a "dirty deal" between President Bashar al-Assad's regime and Kurdish forces as US troops began their withdrawal from the battle zone.

Turkey's operation against Kurdish militants in Syria, launched a week ago, has been widely criticised by the international community, with the US, a NATO ally, slapping sanctions on Ankara.

"We will continue to combat all terrorist groups, including Daesh (the Islamic State group), whether or not the world agrees to support our efforts," Fahrettin Altun, communications director at the Turkish presidency, told AFP.

He said the Kurdish militants had deliberately set free Islamic State (IS) prisoners from their detention camps in northern Syria in order to frighten Western powers.

"In addition to releasing thousands of Daesh prisoners from detention centres, the group deliberately targeted civilians, including reporters, near the Turkish-Syrian border before striking a dirty deal with the Assad regime," Altun said.

The Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) struck a deal with Damascus over the weekend in order to win its protection against the Turkish onslaught.

The deal has led to the return of Syrian forces in the Kurdish-controlled region, including the key town of Manbij, in their most significant deployment since they started withdrawing troops from the area in 2012.

"We urge all parties to look past biased media reports and fake news to appreciate Turkey's role as a bulwark against global terror," Altun told AFP.

He dismissed claims by US Defense Secretary Mark Esper that Turkey's incursion had "resulted in the release of many dangerous ISIS detainees."

Altun said such accusations were "fake news".

"It is no secret that the careers of many US officials, military and civilian, depend on the perpetuation of the Daesh threat in Syria," he said.

"In recent days, we have seen US officials use their official powers to spread fake news about the situation in northern Syria and cover up crimes committed by the PKK's Syrian offshoot."

Ankara says the YPG is a "terrorist" offshoot of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has waged a bloody insurgency inside Turkey since 1984.

Altun said people in Turkey, where the operation has widespread support, were confused about Washington's approach.

"They question why the United States, our NATO ally, would refrain from supporting our counter-terrorism efforts," he said.

"They wonder why America offers no remedy to the refugee crisis. They try to understand why Washington opposes the creation of a safe haven for refugees in northern Syria."

Erdogan's political career is on the line. If Turkish army suffers thousands of dead in Syria he may have to withdraw from Syria and abandon New Ottoman.
Erdogan is pushing Turkey into a well planned quagmire and it will lead to his down fall.

This is very funny, Syrian Kurds are Syrians, they reach a deal with the legal central government to take over, what rights does Turkey got to slam them?

Turkey is nothing but an illegal invader if it fights against Assad, they can't play the "blame terrorists" game on Assad, and Russians got Assad's back.

The best outcome for Erdo is make a deal, then withdraw. The pressure and backlash will become larger and larger.

My prediction Turkey will withdraw within 1 month, claiming victory like killed xxx number of Kurd "Terrorists"

That's how super powers work, if Chinese government makes a deal with Hong kong protesters, US probably will also slam it as a "dirty deal".

Wrong Analogy.

Kurds have been using both Iraq and Syria to attack Turkey. Now with defeat of ISIS and USA backing Kurdish forces were ever increase threat to Turkey thus they have every right to undertake action to ensure there is not threat to their national borders.

.
This isnt a dirty deal, its a good deal. It basically secures Syria's sovereignty and puts an end to the western dream of an independent kurdistan in Syria. Which is one of the reasons why Turkey launched its cross border operation. It also puts an end to any more further destruction of Syrian infrastructure without another war.

These are Syrian Kurds, not Turkey Kurds. I didn't see them attack Turks, I only see them fought ISIS bravely.

.
But President Edogan just Welcomed the Overtaking of Manbij District by Assad Government From YPG Yesterday calling it "Not a vegetative thing". Just Showing Concern about Shelling by Syrian Army of Turkish Backed Forces and that PKK Militant Groups should be removed from Manbij by the Syrian Government Forces.

Learn about politics ... if Chinese members are so ignorant , its your problem

Nah .. there are terrorists in YPG from Germany, the Netherlands,France,Europe,Turkey and Iraq ( multi national terrorist organization )

and PKK was recognized as terrorist organization by Syria , Iraq and Iran
so SDF/YPG = PKK who killed over 40.000 people since 1985 to destroy Turkey's territorial integrity

Turkey has right to be in Syria to fight terrorism ( UN article 51 self defense and ANKARA agreement between Syria and Turkey )

My prediction Turkey will withdraw within 1 month, claiming victory like killed xxx number of Kurd "Terrorists"

keep dreaming dream is free ..... Turkish Army will be in Syria and nobody can force Turkey leave Syria

after invasion of Iraq by 1991 the US and the UK created terror corridor in N.Iraq
and PKK Terrorists always attacked Turkey from Pkk Terror camps in N.Iraq since 1991

Turkey lost hundreds of billions of dollars and more than 40.000 people to fight Pkk terrorism in the last 30 years

today same senario in N.Syria the US , the UK , France , Israel wants to create terror corridor in N.Syria to destroy Syria's territorial integrity

the US supplied the YPG/PKK terrorists with over 30,000 trucks of weapons to fight with Turkey
PKK/YPG Terrorists attacked Turkish cities more than 700 times from N.Syria since 2016
and Turkish soldiers , many Turkish citizens dead

even in the last 7 days 20 civilians including 1 baby , 11-12 and 15 years old girls have been killed and 320 others injured in rocket and mortar attacks launched by PKK/YPG terrorists from northern Syria to Turkey's southeastern Şanlıurfa and Mardin provinces

Kurdish Population is about 5% in Syria ..... but the US backed PKK/YPG Terrorists invaded Arab cities including Munbij , Telabyad , Rasulayn , Raqqa ,etc (30% of Syrian territory ) under the mask of fighting ISIS

and PKK/YPG Terrorists killed thousands of Arabs-Turkmens and forced hundreds of thousands of Arabs-Turkmens to move to Turkey from their lands in N.Syria

this time We will not allow the US , the UK , France , Israel backed PKK/YPG terrorists in N.Syria to attack on Turkey for another 30 years to lose hundreds of billions of dollars and tens of thousands of innocent people including women, children and infants

Turkey is fighting against almost whole world ( the US,the EU, Arab leauge , Israel ) to protect Turkish People and National security

what about pathetic suckers Syrian Regime/Iran ?
Syrian Regime/Iran can not protect PKK/YPG terrorists
