Turkish TAI T-129 ATAK helicopter

Sikorsky will make 109 utility helicopters for the Turkish land, air, gendarmerie and police forces for $3.5 billion along with other domestic contractors.

Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) signed agreements with Sikorsky as main subcontractor and Turkey’s Aselsan, TEI and ALP as other subcontractors, the Defense Industry Undersecretariat (SSM) has said in a statement, as reported by Reuters.

“These helicopters will be delivered to six different users in the next 10 years under the licensed production in Turkey,” it added.

In the framework of the project, TAI will manufacture all main parts of the T70 helicopters, undertake all montage works, make all tests and offer integrated logistics support. Aselsan will be responsible for the development and the integration of basic avionics while assuming responsibility together with Sikorsky for the development of the helicopter cockpit.

TEI will manufacture the helicopter’s engine, while ALP will undertake the production and montage of the landing gear, as well as the dynamic parts of the helicopter, according to the statement.

“The Turkish defense and aviation industry will play a significant role in meeting the utility helicopter needs of our country for both civilian and military purposes with the Utility Purpose Helicopter Project, which is worth around $3.5 billion,” the SSM said.

.
Another billion dollar deal signed in the last weeks... Keep them coming! :bunny:

.
Sikorsky has been chosen in 2011. Deliveries will start in 2020-21 after 10 years delay. I heard that national contribution rate lower than what we have expected. Is that true?

.
I can't say that I support this deal, didn't TAI already pay Agusta Westland for engineering help with the t-129? And now they're going to spend 3.5 billion dollars to learn how to build utility helicopters?

TAI can't seem to do anything on their own, they already know how to build t-129s so who do they need to pay again in order to make simple utility helicopters? No wonder Bayraktar has a fully functional armed UAV ready while the ANKA still is in development.

With 3.5 billion dollars they could have made an utility helicopter from scratch and not have to pay a license fee every time they build one.

You are comparing apples and oranges in every sentence of your post, besides im pretty sure they know exactly what they are capable of and what not, not everything is about money.

Which version you are going to produce ? Are you going for the Armed Version which is called Battle Hawk ?

.
If there is something like Battle Hawk I think it could be used good by the special forces lets hope something like that come out atleast for the special forces

Sikorsky t-70 is very good helicopter and has very good performance.I dont know why we dont use them with armed. I dont mean fully armed but they can carry two cirit pods each have 4 missiles.
We developed guided rokets.Cirit is cheap and effective solution for pkk terorists and not too heavy misile. If we put on cirit misiles for each pilons of helicopter it can hit targets from 8 km away.
It can also hit targets which UAVs pointed or special forces pointed.Using them only for tranport is not enough for asimetric warfare. We must develop new strategies.

As I said armed version for the special forces will be very nice because the helicopter will not need escort, can defend itself and after the insertion it can provide extra firepower and support to the forces on the ground while watching the area that can not be watched by the ground forces, minimizing surprise with the intelligence given to the ground forces, the possible targets hit from the air the possible operation will be completed with minimised casualties and situations prevented from the air that can not be prevented from the ground with few words I think this concept will be very effective
