Turkey Seek Indigenous Engine Technology

"High bypass" turbo fans used on airliners.

"Low bypass" turbofans are used on fighter aircrafts.

I'm not following this issue only from Burak Bekdil.

I know TEI ultimately wants create an engine that will power TFX.... but do they work towards that goal... ? Answer is No.

Like i said before. TEI has to enhance it's abilities greatly...Do TEI;

- able to create single crystal fan blades ?
- Do they have TBC abilities ?
- Do they have super-elastic forming capabilities for fan blades ?
- Do they have desing capalities for such a project ?

List goes on like this.....if they are serious about this engine...you know our saying "Talk less Work more"

Mate, it's not about underestimating Turks. There are some projects in the world that they are hardest of all to achive.
Which requires massive amount of money, experience, time, brain power.

These are;
- TurboFan Engine capable of powering a Aircraft
- Cryogenic Rocket Engine
- Nuclear Detonation Device

Why nuclear detonation device is so hard to build? Pakistan has built it..and we aren't a advance nation so to speak. Our education and social sector is far behind Turkey's...

Turbojets go faster; turbofans go further. Turbojets, relatively cheaper and easier; turbofans, hardest to make and more expensive.

You invested and worked like crazy since 1950s...it took decades until you created your nukes. It was not an easy job.

@Hyperion knows best. :)

TurboJets are outdated....not being used on aircrafts today. :meeting:

Go faster is not a good term. :) It all depends on the engine's thrust that's it.

There is also the drag issue. Turbofans have a bigger axial cross section, turbojets are slimmer and more aerodynamic. You play with the bypass ratio to achieve the required performance.

More and more aviation components are made by additive manifacturing methods. Todays manifacturing technology is more capable.

How much longer will we accept being behind Ukraine in the technology arena? We have to catch up and overtake countries to get to where we belong. Overtaking countries is like conquering countries in the modern times.

:) No one is arguing about these statements...

But don't underestimate Ukraine in the engine department.....we have decades of work to catch up with them.

Turkey wouldnt develop TFX-simply inject that much money, if they dont plan to produce its own turbofan engine. They also have many other good relations with Korea,Japan and Ukrain that they can offer other technologies or business instead, as Nuclear plant was given to Japan and france partnership!
Also, with ALP, Kale and TEI, Tumosan, too many engine manufacturing companies, they will get there,,

.
Good decision from Turkey side. I wish the engine project can be successful. I would rather see Turkey spend on this project than buying too many F-35.

@AUz, I don't think so. Let's not fire cannons from our ***, willy nilly. Turkey's (present) education system is leagues beyond ours. Our nuclear program, of which I'm intimately aware of, had less to do with education and more to do with out-of-the-box insourcing (ingenuity if you wish). Nonetheless, not a small feat by any stretch of the word. Furthermore, education in Pakistan back then was amazing and nothing what it is now.

Our people are intelligent, very intelligent, they always have been, however, the prevalent system(s) in the past three decades have demoralized 'our' people to such an extent that they have lost the ability to think, to understand this, you'd have to come to this side of the world.

I could name a few Turkish industries and research institutes, who, for the better part of last three decades, have been following an indigenous route, responsible for all the economic benefits that Turkey is experiencing now.

Anyhow, we digress!

Uncle, since you are far more knowledgeable than all of us. Can you share your thoughts regarding "making a indigenous TurboFan engine which will power a jet fighter"

Also, you may know that we are initiating our own "1000-1500 SHP class Turboshaft Gas Turbine Engine"

More details here, please look over a little Turkish engine thread | Page 18

I know creating a Turbofan engine from zero, is nearly impossible. However, i suppose some technological barriers (such as creating single crytal fan blades) will be broken but how close will we come for creating the TurboFan engine after creating the Turboshaft engine ?

As far I know the turbofan Variant from Kale-3500 Engine will be ready two Years later than the Turbojet !

You are referring to this timetable.

But a cruise missile's Turbofan is like this.

However your aircraft's turbofan looks like this.

To gave an example it's like the difference between Hürkuş and F-22.

A high power turbofan is way harder to make than a turboshaft. So what!
