Turkey says US sanctions will not impact helicopter deal with Pakistan

Hi,

So far Turkey has made one blunder after the other---. It should have bowed its head down to make the F35 deal---. It was not very intelligent of the Turks to butt heads with the US ahead of time---.

Very poor timing and extremely poor choice.

F35 over the S400---anytime of the day---.
in short you are right. don't read my post any further.

what is done is done. sadly the time cant be reversed
no matter how much I rant and try to see Pakistani Anguish in Turkish predicament... wish them well and hail their honorable and steadfast leadership's resolve... I know deep inside that the cost was way too dear.

Turkey shut itself from the access to world's finest technology of all times. some will point towards Turkish very own TFX program. its very ambitious and advanced (compared to Pakistani Azm) but imagine the amount of components and subsystems Turkey expects to source from the west and the potential barriers from Americans. unless Turkey builds everything from nut and bolt to the final product in house.

I dont know if you recall President Trump criticizing Obama administration for its reluctance to sell Patriot systems to Turkey, he even justified Turkish decision but that were just words. he delayed the ban until last days of his presidency and this is now.

I don't know if the Turkish leadership crawls on a broken glass to the American feet and grabs them and begs them to forgive them. dismantles their S400 system to be allowed back in their fold but nothing short might do.

No it's not the indigenous engine. That is at least three years away.

Yes ... but if the US ban the export of the T800 and a Turkish solution is not viable within the next years, what else could it be?

.
Fog will clear soon about T 129/Z10 purchase.
Still, there could be a move in terms of Z1 Zulu delivery which are ready and preserved .

.
Why so many here thinking individual benefit. Think of rise of nation rather slavery. For such greater purpose, one must need to sacrifice.
Look at China
Look at Turkey in current scenario.
Look at Pakistan after Nuclear Test sanction

.
I'm afraid it will, engines are a big issue.
The T-129 will have to wait for a Turkish engine. I presume the army will fast forward plans for the Chinese WZ-10.

What about 3rd Party engine from Ukraine, Russia etc.?

Turkey says US sanctions will not impact helicopter deal with Pakistan
Despite new US sanctions, the defence industry would continue to move forward, says official

ANKARA/ ISTANBUL:
Turkey’s top defence industry official said on Tuesday any US sanctions against Ankara would not affect the country’s several existing projects, including a helicopter deal with Pakistan, but could impact other deals with Islamabad such as Pakistan Atak helicopter and Hurjet aircraft projects.
Ismail Demir, the head of Turkey’s Defence Industries Presidency (SSB) said that despite new US sanctions, the defence industry would continue to move forward. “We expect this [sanctions] not to affect our relationships too much,” told reporters after speaking to parliament.
The US on Monday imposed sanctions on Turkey over its purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defence system. The sanctions, coming under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), target the SSB, including Demir, and three other officials.
Starting on January 20, the incoming US President Joe Biden administration may also bring changes in policy – positive or negative – and the US sanctions could also trigger sanctions from the EU, Demir said, speaking a day after the US announcement.
The SSB chief underlined that the sanctions should not affect existing projects, such as the T70 helicopter, but added that the Pakistan Atak helicopter and Hurjet aircraft projects would probably be affected.
The sanctions will slow down Turkish defence projects related to the US for a short period, but the Turkish defence industry would take advantage of this process and manage to take over production of all critical parts in the long term, he stressed.
“The development of the domestic industry will continue, perhaps even faster. In a sense, this [sanctions] will serve as a flare and a warning,” he said, underlining Turkey’s nearly 70-year NATO membership and Ankara’s relations with fellow members and the US in several areas.
In April 2017, when its protracted efforts to buy an air defense system from the US proved fruitless, Turkey signed a contract with Russia to acquire the S-400 shield. The US opposed their deployment, claiming they would expose next-generation F-35 jets to possible Russian subterfuge.

Turkey and Pakistan both already overcome from this problem. Pakistan will get his heli starting from year 2023. Turkey agree to give Pakistan all block 2 instead of original order of first batch block 1 and rest block two. US engine was an issue but Turkey already overcome it

very lack research article
Firstly, S-300 is not S-400. S-300 is actually a joke, as demonstrated in how Syria tried to use it against Israel and the system went berserk, downing a Russian craft instead LOL

Never trust Russian technology over American.
And Trump was willing to give Turkey a much better deal if they listened to him and didn't go for the S-400. But Erdogan was stubborn, I think he let his ego come in the way of his own country's national interests.

You correctly point out that Russia is against Turkey and working to undermine it, in the three theaters (Libya, Syria, and Azerbaijan). If only Erdogan realized that before he did the deal with the devil and got the S-400.
On the other hand, Trump backed out of supporting the Kurds, he even called the Kurds terrorists worse than ISIS and said Turkey is justified in going after them. Turkey never had such a friend as Trump, and now probably never will, what a squandered opportunity.

And what has compelled Turkey to adapt such an anti-Israel stance? Another irrational and emotionally driven blunder that is against their own national interest.
if S400 is a joke then US must let Turkey become joker. Why US went to save Turkey dollars?

The engine will take at least 3 years to certify, so i guess Pakistan will wait until 2024 for new helicopters?

Pakistan already give turkey a year to resolve the issue. Plus there is no gurantee by 2023 , the engine will meet the spec and ready for mass production and operation.2023 is provided all testing goes smoothly and perfect.

PA shall not waste time on 'supposed' or 'if'.

It's all Erdogan's doing. Not only is he alienating friends and allies alike, but meddling in negotiations for air missile defense systems. Erdogan thought he would get the F-35 regardless of the S-400, but that proved to be false. Now both sides are entrenched with no solution on the horizon.

I think turkey already sense US decision to isolate Turkey from high tech military. Even Turkey received the F-35, there will be many restriction while US will never place that kind of restriction on western NATO countries. Turkey will end up getting a half botch F-35 and no proper AD system.

Turkey is a NATO ally and will be treated like a NATO ally when it returns to being a NATO ally. The solution is simple: get rid of S-400 and the F-35 will be delivered.

I advocate PA going for Chinese attack helis actually. The Z-10ME seems like quite an attractive solution for this ridiculous problem.

I don't think it's that simple. NATO Christian are biased towards countries like Greece when comes to dealing with Turkey. Will Turkey get back F-35 by just simply give up S-400? I afraid Turkey will end up nothing if try to give up S-400.

It not just simply a matter of S-400 or compromised of NATO security with Russian system. It has become a clash of civilisation. Once Turkey gives up S-400, major NATO will ask Turkey to withdraw from Libya then they will ask Turkey to withdraw from Syria. It will be an endless demand for Turkey to get into F-35 and other NATO system.

Atak is not coming, if Trump had won, Pakistan would have better chances, but as they say Pakistan is a nation who work for interests of Iran... at all costs..
