Turkey on May 10 denied a German newspaper report claiming that Turkeywill no longer buy the S-400 air defense systems from Russia.

Presidential Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said the S-400 procurement was a "done deal."

“Dear Julian, your sources are mistaken. Take it from me: The S-400 procurement is a done deal,” Altun tweeted, responding to claims by Julian Ropcke, editor in chief for foreign policy, at tabloid Bild.

Earlier on May 10, Ropkce tweeted: “Diplomatic sources tell Bild, Erdoğan will not buy the S-400 from Russia.”

Tensions between the U.S. and Turkeyhave reached a fever pitch in recent months with Turkey set to begin receiving the advanced S-400 surface-to-air missile system.

Washington maintains the move will jeopardize Turkey's role in the F-35 fighter jet program and could trigger congressional sanctions.

Turkey decided in 2017 to purchase the S-400 system following protracted efforts to purchase air defense systems from the U.S. with no success.

I must excuse for Julian Röpcke, what you must to know is, he is part of The Atlantic Bridge. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Atlantic_Bridge

Russian and Turkish state sources confirmed Wednesday that deliveries of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems are now underway, with parts for the advanced Russian systems already having arrived in Turkey via transport planes with a team of Russian specialists, reportedly in the eastern Anatolian city of Malatya as well as the capital of Ankara.

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced of the provocative transfer which has for the past year been met with condemnation by the United States - including the threat of sanctions and blockage of F-35s to Turkey - that “Deliveries of Russian S-400 complexes to Turkey are carried out as planned.”

The US this week again warned of “real and negative” consequences if Turkey completes the purchase of the S-400, which is now definitively a done deal with the S-400 equipment arrivals in Turkey. “Those consequences include participation in the F-35 program,” a State Department spokesperson said Tuesday.

Turkey, for its part, shot back on Wednesday that the US must avoid taking the “wrong steps,” with the foreign ministry saying in a statement, “We are inviting the US to avoid taking the wrong steps which would exclude diplomacy and dialogue and harm relations.”

Starting months ago Turkey consistently affirmed it's "a done deal" and that there would be no cancellation, even as Washington urged "alternatives" such as US Patriot missiles.

But as of today it now appears there's no further dialogue to be had on the S-400, which early this week President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared would be a positive development for the defense of the region "and for the world". On Wednesday Erdogan further described to reporters:
"Some people have a question about why we buy the S-400, why we make such an investment. If we have to, we will have the right to use them. If someone attacks us, we will use these air defense systems. That's why we make such an investment.”

Interestingly, the new US Ambassador to Turkey, David Satterfield, just arrived in the country to take up his post at the US Embassy in Ankara on same day the S-400 deliveries began.

The State Department's stance is that "nothing has changed" concerning US resistance to the S-400 deal. Concerns have been driven over fears that it would allow Russia to access sensitive information on the defenses of NATO aircraft, especially if Turkey's military is simultaneously operating the Lockheed Martin made F-35 advanced stealth fighter.

“The Turkish authorities know the legislation that has been passed in Congress as it relates to CAATSA,” U.S. State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said on Tuesday . “We have said that Turkey will face real and negative consequences if they accept the S-400, including participation in the F-35 program.”

At least two batches of the S-400 surface-to-air missile batteries are expected to be delivered in total, however, they likely won't be ready for deployment until October, according to reports.

The question of which side decides to blink or compromise first will be interesting, given we're now past the point of no return.

im actually pleasantly surprised turkey withstood American pressure and held their ground on this....

Good for turkey.

though I don't see why the US is so deadest against this. why is it bad that a NATO country gets a hold of the s400 and other nato countries can practise against it? (like the s300 in greek service)

Turkey needs to make sure it doesn't get kicked out of F-35 program.

Turkish Air Force needs 115 F-35s to make sure the Turkish air power maintains effective deterrence in the region

The beginning of the end of US-Turkey alliance.
The US is behaving weirdly for the last couple of years - even before Trump. They've managed to alienate most of the world and even lose Turkey.

In the long term this is going to bite them in the *** - it already led to the EU forming their own army (PESCO) which will inevitably lead to less and less US bases in the coming decades.

They've lost out the entire Middle Eastern population but are holding on the leaders. These leaders will go, the systems in place will change but the mindset of the people are set in stone - I don't forsee a long period of time where the US and Israel manage to hold on to the ME in a meaningful way.

Egypt? Bound to have a leadership and system change in the not so distant future.
UAE? will probably implode with how things are going
Libya? Same as Egypt, and the transition is taking place right now
That only leaves Saudi Arabia - that I don't see collapsing anytime soon.
Even the Sudanese, where they managed a coup, detests the SA and US alliance - how long will the military manage to hold on in this age?

Maybe I'm being too prophetic with my thoughts - but I really don't see the US plans moving forward properly in this region and the EU.

A done deal means a done deal. They should deal with it. Turkey is no S.Arabia or Egypt or another dozens of puppet states. They can hurt us economically, that's right but it will pass one way or another. This is a new era for everyone. Consequences are calculated. If things are escalated they will lose Incirlik NATO AB. Soon there will be a big operation for N. Syria. They will lose their terrorist ally PKK/YPG too. This is our backyard madafakas!

Don't worry about turkey. They have a history and they fight to the last man. Ask the anzaks
