Turkey Launches Channel in Russian as Diplomatic Rift Widens

24 May 2020

Turkey’s state-run TRT broadcaster has launched a new Russian-language channel on digital platforms as differences between the countries widen over Libya and Syria.

TRT Russian will focus on giving alternative perspectives on daily issues and news that is missed in the mainstream media, the channel said on its website.

Turkey and Russia are backing opposing sides in the civil wars in Syria and Libya. Ankara has been providing military and diplomatic support to Libya’s United Nations-recognized administration, while Russian mercenaries have been deployed to back militia commander Khalifa Haftar.

In March, Turkey detained three Turkish nationals who work for Russia’s Sputnik news agency over a story that referred to the Turkish province of Hatay as having been “stolen” from Syria. The detentions coincided with clashes between Turkish troops and Russian-backed Syrian forces in northwestern Syria.

Nice work! It's about time for us to have our own RT and Sputnik... TRT also launched the TRT Deutsch recently as well and when you consider about the Turks in Germany, it was a must for for us. Nice to see that we are expanding our soft power!

in order to have soft power you need to stand for something.

the western ''soft power" had historically came from a combination of media propaganda screaming demooooocracy!!! coups, funding NGOs and anti-government activities.

Russian "soft power" was energy supplies, and being an independent player major world power, weapons exporter, UN VETO holder etc.etc..

Irans soft power comes from its resistance to western imperialism/ Zionism in the region. Iran believes the vast majority of the people in the region believe that the Zionist entity, and western imperialism has no place in the region. and believes local countries should take control of their own regions and kick these foregin aliens out.

even the Saudis have established some sembelane of "soft power" which is basically them going around and bribing people, and then openly threatning the people they bribe to get in line in humiliating fashion (Lebanons PM being one example)

what exactly does turkey stand for? a Turkish nationalist state whos extreme nationalism has caused a low level civil war and instability against the major ethnic minority left that wasn't genocided. turkey is not independent as it a NATO country, with heavy economic vulnerabalities.

what does turkey stand for? Turkish nationalism? Neo ottoman empire? neo colonialism? Land grabbing from neighbours? Islamism? half hearted camera performances and speeches against Zionists??? everything with turkey is half hearted....

until you figure out who you are , what you stand for. you will not be succesfull with soft power.

What a load of BS. You're mixing ideology with soft power, refrain from writing half a novel when you don't even understand the basic meaning of words and the end and flows of how the world runs.

Power is power, it is absolute and meaningful by its own. But because of its destructive nature you also need a more nuanced version which is generally referred to as soft power, i.e. diplomatic power.

You can derive this from many sources, and military power, ironically, is the number one source of your soft power. Then comes your economic pull, after that comes in the favours you've granted the nation you want soft power over.

And after that comes in your ideology and how close to that ideology the target nation is. Also they should believe that you're upholding that ideology and not just posturing with it.

This last one is miniscule and not really effective either.

So, power is power, today you've learned something.

peace and justice , as like the Ottoman Empire ruled 44 Countries in peace and justice for Centuries
also the Turks who saved and protected Islamic World since 1096 Crusade

Turkish soft power is very strong from Bosnia to China , from Libya to Pakistan , from Somalia to Indonesia from Syria to Turkic Peoples in Russia

on the other hand
-- Radical sectarian Iran used shia terror groups to create chaos in Arab countries Iraq,Syria,Lebanon,Yemen

-- after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire , criminal the US, the UK , France , Israel , Russia , Iran killed millions of muslim Arabs in Algeria , Libya , Palestine , Iraq , Syria , etc

also Christian Serbs and Armenians slaughtered Muslims in Bosnia/Kosova and Azerbaijan

you either need economics, idology, or a combination of the two to advance soft power... I don't know what other forms exist.. turkey is clearly lacking on the economic soft power front (especially in regards to Russia)

what angle, ideology is TRT going to present to Russia? I just don't get it to be honest. you need to be advertising something...

GOod point about soft Turkish power in the world. Even in NIgeria, there is a Turkish-NIgerian hospital and university and they are a strong sign of Turkish soft power.

in the last 9 years Turkiye spent over $60 billion for humanitarian aid to muslim Countries

Turkiye spent $8.4 billion in humanitarian assistance in 2018, while its aid expenses were $8.1 billion in 2017, according to the Development Initiative's (DI) Global Humanitarian Assistance Report

Turkiye had been ranked third in the DI report in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and second in 2016.2017,2018

In 2018, some 29% of all international humanitarian aid $28.9 billion came from Turkiye ( $8.4 billion )

even Turkish TV dramas play key role in soft power ( Turkish dramas are broadcast in 130 countries across the world which means Turkish culture and life is shared with many people of different cultures )

Turkiye’s soft power capacity comes from its history, culture and geography.
The new Turkish public diplomacy is building on Turkiye’s expanding soft power in the Balkans, the Middle East , the Caucasus , Africa and Asia

and There are over 14 millions of Turkic People in Russia

Turkey has undoubtedly a big sphere of Influence / Softpower stretching from Balkan all the way to Pakistan.
You can see that just by the volume of Turkish media consumed in those countries including yours.
Sry dude but i wont even compare it to politically isolated Iran which has some proxies here and there but thats about it, no diplomatic power and only limited cultural (sectarian) power.

You should remember how northern Iranians feel about Turkey.
