Turkey confirmed reports in the Greek media that Turkey issued a note to Greece recently for the violation of international agreements on demilitarizing Eastern Aegean islands.


Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on Friday confirmed reports in the Greek media that Turkey issued a note to Greece recently for the violation of international agreements on demilitarizing Eastern Aegean islands.

The Greek media on Friday said that Turkey issued a note to Greece to keep Samothraki (Semadirek) island exempt from military exercises as the island had a demilitarized status according to an agreement signed in 1914 and the Lausanne Treaty of 1923.

Greek Ethnos newspapers wrote that Greek officials refused Turkey's arguments by issuing a note to Turkey in return for Turkey's note to them.
