Turkey in Europes future, Turkish PM says - Daily Sabah

Turkish people are an essential part of Europe, Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said late on Saturday in his address to the nation.

Davutoğlu addressed Turkish citizens and expatriates in his "On the Path to New Turkey" speech televised on Saturday.

"A European history cannot be written without Turkish archives. And its future will not be written without us, either."

Pointing to the obstacles in Turkey's EU membership, Davutoğlu said those adopting anti-Muslim and anti-Turkish stances would not be able to overshadow either the historical realities or Turkey's willpower.

The Turkish PM stressed that Turkey embraces all ethnicities, languages, and religions including Islam, Christianity, Judaism, as well as Sunni, Alewi, Turkish, Kurdish, Arabic, Balkan and Caucasian peoples.

Davutoğlu reiterated that he had met with religious representatives of non-Muslim and Alevi people earlier this month and that they exchanged views on the common cultural riches of the Turkish land.

"This land is a place that inspires mercy," he stressed.

Referring to the recent deadly Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris, which killed 12 people, Davutoğlu said:

"When we were walking together in Paris with all the world leaders, our aim was to show that no terror act around the world could be identified with Islam (...) But we will also not remain silent over any type of insult against our Prophet Muhammad."

He underlined Turkey's fight against terrorism. Terrorist acts have never been tolerated in the country, he said.

Turkish PM also spoke about his attending the World Economic Forum in Davos as the holder of G20 term presidency.

Turkey assumed the G20 presidency on December 1. The first G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Deputy Governors' level meeting will be held in Istanbul on February 8-9.

"Turkey, with the G20 presidency, will be a bridge to justice between the least and the most developed countries," Davutoğlu said, repeating the word justice three times.

"If there will ever be an international peace and tranquility, and brotherhood for humanity, the magic word is justice."

Justice and mercy go hand in hand, he stressed, and said the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority, or AFAD, is a great success story for Turkey.

"AFAD carries our mercy all across the world," he said voicing gratitude to the institution, which he said has become one of the leading aid organizations in the world.

Referring to the developments in Turkey's defense industry, PM said the first national warplane prototype will have been produced by 2023.

He said that countries that cannot defend themselves and do not have a national defense industry will only be "chanting slogans" on their independence.

"A country's future is ensured through its defense industry in a similar way as peace and stability is ensured through economy," Davutoğlu said, adding that inflation, current account deficit, and interest rates are decreasing while production has been increasing in Turkey.

He also explained in detail the recent reforms in labor and family planning.

Labor reforms announced last Wednesday are targeted at reducing the informal economy as well as boosting employment, and supporting women's participation in the workforce.

Earlier in January, Davutoğlu also announced new incentives for working women to have children.

"We will provide mothers with the opportunity for part-time work after they use up the normal paid maternity leave of 16 weeks," Davutoğlu said as he launched the government initiative titled "Program on Protection of Family and Dynamic Population Structure."

The Turkish PM said those are all signs of Turkey's turning into a global power and that they will be noticed first within the country and later in Europe, Asia, Africa, and all across the world.

No it's not! Why the hell would the eu need 50 million highly radicalised Turkish citizens for?

Just dont forget that Turkey is the second largest military personal in NATO and right now NATO countries are watching the situation in Ukraine very closely. Lithuania is inviting Turkish military Personal.

Turkey wont be participating in case of a showdown between West and Russia.

West prefered Kurds over Turks, we noted that on our book.

About 3 percent of Portugal's territory is in Africa. That doesn't make the Portugese Africans.
The EU is a sinking ship anyway. I have no idea why Turkey would even want to join.

Governing party tries to get as much support as it can get before the election. Whatever they tell is a lie. Whatever they do is corrupt.

Russian Federation is trying to move Turkey by giving gas deals but i dont think that Turkey will leave change it stand in NATO alliance.

Minister J.Olekas also proposed to the Minister of Defence of Turkey to consider joining the establishment of the international NATO headquarters in Lithuania and five other Eastern European countries and the formation of the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF).

Regarding Kurds then we can see the influence of Turkey inside Iraqi Kurdistan.

Turkish Army is an independent entity separated from the state. If it says: I would not participate in such mission, government cannot do anything. There are non written rules.

Turkey wont be participating and will take its position according Montreux convention.

We will NOT join the EURO. You guys just don't understand, do you..?

If we join the EU, that would make our country shine even more. We only want the EU for like a "trademark" that says "a prime example of humanity and modernity".

Having the EU flag alone will increase our trades, our scientific industries, our education levels along with everything else.

After joining the EU, there will also be more tourists pouring into our country for holidays. about 35-40 million people visit our country every year, and that will increase to 80-90 million. Because of the open-border policies etc, the EU is like one solid country, that makes the EU citizens act more freely when deciding to visit a country.

They will just go down to our country as if it is their own country.

And there will be direct-EURO purchasing/payment systems for local goodies, which will increase our reserves at a rapid pace.

Our relationships with african and arabian countries will get better and closer too. They will prefer Turkey more, for education, research and holiday destination, knowing that there will not be human-right violations, and it will be one cheap great quality holiday experience.

Our international ties and effectiveness will also increase dramatically. Even today we have an enormous influence over all the other region countries. With the accession of the EU, we will go far beyond that.
